Dear parents and caregivers

Kia ora koutou katoa

Swimming Block #1 ends
I guess children, teachers and parents will be pleased to see the end of the swimming block. The kids get so tired and whilst they sleep well, tea-time can be a bit fractious!
It is fantastic we still have swimming tuition - thanks to all who assist the teachers and thanks to Jill Clarke and her team.

After School Care and Holiday Programme
The after school care programme is being audited this week to confirm we meet the requirements for OSCAR subsidies. After some years of having little say in the quality and content of local after-school care and holiday programmes, it is a real step up for us to have a school-based programme approved.
It is also pleasing to hear such positive reports about the school-based programme. Parents are saying they find the quality of staff supervision affirming and the children tell us they love being in the programme.
Our staff and children work out of room C1 in the College Block so please feel free to pop in and see how it is operating.
Kia kaha tatou katoa ki te tautoko o tatou tamariki, mokopuna hoki.

John McKenzie

Room H2 are cats, bulls and vines

Room H2 made a giant puzzle with the Get NZ Writing project which they have sent to a buddy class at New Windsor School in Auckland.
The children wrote metaphors about themselves on the back of the puzzle and coloured them in. Here are some of their metaphors: James is a cat cuddling up with people, Jack is a hard-headed bull, Bodie is vines climbing up walls and Iris is a slinking cat curling up on the couch.

Room C3 scrambles an ostrich egg!

If you’ve ever wondered what an ostrich egg tastes like ask room C3. Oscar brought in the egg given to him from a neighbour.
The class drilled a hole in both ends of the egg and blew all the yolk and white out. The egg was then scrambled and fed the whole class!
Apparently it tastes like a normal egg but a little richer.

Awesome mountain biking

Congratulations to Logan (10) who competed with his family in the Naseby 12-hour mountain bike race on Saturday. He did two laps of the 11.5km challenging course!
Great work Logan.

Anzac Day

We have poppies available in the offiece for staff and pupils for a gold coin donation.
Anzac Day falls in the school holidays this year. The Dawn Service of Remembrance starts at 6.30am at the Cenotaph, Queens Gardens. Those wishing to march need to be assembled no later than 6am.

Headlice have made an appearance so please be vigillant in checking your children’s hair.
Look for small light or dark brown insects without wings and tiny whitish eggs like grains of salt attached to the hair shaft. There may be unusual itching on the head or neck. Treatment does not need to be chemical or expensive.
