From the principal

Dear parents and caregivers

Kia ora koutou katoa

Homework policy
Tuesday afternoons in the McKenzie household are a bit hectic - piano practice is followed by swimming classes which is followed by Keas! So dinner is a little later than normal and after dinner the last thing anyone in our house wants to do is school homework!
Homework is provided by the teachers to reinforce what is being taught in class and to keep parents up-to-date with how a child is progressing.
We understand that homework can add unreasonable stress to family life. Therefore we do not enforce the completion of homework tasks. If homework becomes a major pain in your household, give it a miss!

Our PTA needs help
The school benefits greatly from the work of the Parent Teachers Association. The number of active members is currently very low and probably at an unsustainable level. Anyone able to give some time to this important group should contact Tamsin Greer on nevn.pta@gmail.com

Kia kaha tatou katoa ki te tautoko o tatou tamariki, mokopuna hoki.

John McKenzie
Principal

Thank you Lion Foundation for uniforms

A huge thank you to the Lion Foundation for a grant which enabled us to buy 50 shorts and
t-shirts for our sports uniform.
The uniforms are used at sports days, by sports teams such as futsal and netball, and at cultural events.
Our awesome models are Oscar and Harriet.

Beach Education Day

School swimming

The senior swimming block continues until Thursday and juniors will start their swimming lessons on Friday.
Don’t forget to pack togs, towels and goggles.
Parent helpers are appreciated, especially with the juniors when we need extra help with getting pupils changed.

Thank you for swim grant

A big thank you to the Bendigo Valley Sports and Charity Foundation who have given us a $1500 grant towards our swimming blocks.
This grant makes a significant contribution to the costs of swimming lessons for all pupils with JC Swim School at DNI pool.

Chess and games club

Our Chess and Strategy Games Club has started up again on Wednesday lunchtimes in room H1.
Logan Park High School pupils Matai and Hannah along with Otago Chess Club volunteers come along to help make this is a fun session for our children.

PTA news

The PTA is joining the Reading Cinemas school reward programme. Simply hand in a school-stamped coupon with each ticket and for every 10 coupons handed in we get a free movie pass.
Keep those donations coming in for the PTA Easter raffle to the box in the office. Thank you for all our
donations so far.
The PTA has sent home a PTA newsletter with the hard copy of this school newsletter to give parents an update on what they have been busy with this term.

Scholastic Book Club

Orders for Issue 2 of the Scholastic Book Club are due this Friday.
Payments can be made at the office or make your order online at mybookclub.scholastic.co.nz

Dental School visits

Dental therapy clinics for school pupils started this month. Children receive their treatment from students under the care of dental therapists and/or dentists.
Parents/caregivers will be advised by the Dental School of the date and time of clinics and children are normally transported from school in a minibus and supervised by a dental student.
Parents are welcome to travel with their child and attend the clinic, or to take their child independently to the clinic.
If a consent form is needed, please complete it and give it to your child on the day of their appointment, or leave it at the school office.
If you have any questions about your child’s care please contact Donna, the Dental School administrator, on 479 7189.
Parents do also have the option of taking their child to the Dental Hub where treatment is provided by dental therapists, or to their family dentist.
