A busy Spring for CHIP IN

We want to say a huge thank you to our supporters, liaisons, community groups, businesses, churches, friends, Facebook friends, and neighbors for all your help and support. Together, we made a huge difference to A LOT of students and families.

Our Mission:
To support students and their families in temporary or transitional housing situations or who are facing the obstacles of poverty and are on free/reduced lunch program at BPS101.  Homeless can include living in a shelter, living with a friend, living with extended family, in a hotel, or a car.  All families are vetted by school district staff and administration.  Our projects cover many areas, we mobilize fast, and we have many wonderful partners.

Cheer Team Helping Again!

For the 3rd year, the BHS Cheer Team collected donations for CHIP IN Welcome Home Baskets we give to families moving from homelessness. Deanna Vanderheyden and her daughter, Alyssa, started the Cheer Team's donation efforts 3 years ago, with the support of  BHS Coach Jennifer Melendez.

Bikes for Batavia
CHIP IN works with the Batavia Bicycle Commission, to help with Bikes For Batavia, a bike refurbishing/recycling program. All Spoked Up (3 Webster St.) accepts bike donations (gently used) year round, where bikes are repaired and gifted to students and adults in need.  All Spoked Up is also an authorized drop-off location for Working Bikes, which redistributes bikes locally and globally.  To date, over 300 bikes have been given away!  They are for kids and adults who cannot afford a bike, but need transportation and/or really want to ride a bike!

Drop off gently used bikes for children and adults any time at All Spoked Up, 3 Webster Street.  They can give you a tax letter for your donation.  Thank you!

PROM DRIVE - A Huge Success!!
We collected over 900 dresses!  We gave away over 210 dresses to girls from Batavia, Chicago, Stevenson, Oswego, Normal, Geneva, St. Charles, Shabbona, Wheaton, Mooseheart, Aurora, Metea, Lemont, Mt. Prospect, and more!  They left with dresses, shoes, jewelry, purses and a chance to win raffle prizes from Lisa Mack and her Tocara Jewelry and Lilla Rose Hair Accessories.  We were on WBBM radio to get some advertising and it did bring girls to us!
In addition, we gave away over 400 dresses to other groups helping our community, as the library does not have room to store all these dresses! We gave 140 outdated dresses to All Dressed Up, 14 to Madrigals, 150 to My Daughter's Dress (prom drive in Oswego), 90 to Wayside Ministries in Aurora, 30 to the Clothes Closet, over 100 to East Aurora High School, and some to 2 special needs groups for adult prom events.  We were THRILLED with the day, and a HUGE thank you to:

The Batavia Public Library, administration and staff
BPS staff for helping deliver/set up the racks
AGS for donating the racks
Prairie State Packaging for donating the wardrobe boxes (double as storage and as private dressing rooms!)
