PRINCIPAL'S INTRODUCTION

Dear Parents / Family / Whanau

Thank you all for your support of our students and our school during Term 3.  Students and staff are looking forward to the Term 3 holidays and a well deserved break.

As the external NCEA exams are to begin on 9 November it is important that our senior students dedicate some time during these holidays to the creation of a study plan that will give them the best opportunity to meet and indeed surpass their academic potential.

This being said I wish you all a restful and safe holiday break.

Russell Gordon
Principal

BIOGRAPHICAL NARRATIVE OF WILL POTTER

From colonial past to New Zealand classroom:
The biographical narrative of Will Potter —
Commercial secondary school teacher (1958 – 1976)

Will Potter: Commercial Practice, Bookkeeping, and Accounting teacher, 1958–1976
My name is Jacqui Burne, and I am currently collecting data on Will Potter, my father, as part of my thesis research for my Doctor of Education degree. I would very much like to talk to any past or present teachers at the school who taught with Will or previous students who were taught by him when he was at Mount Maunganui College during the years 1975-1976. I am seeking to give an account of his life, both from personal and educational perspectives, especially as he came to teaching later in life, was an immigrant with English not his first language, and he went on to write Commercial textbooks in use in secondary schools during the late 1960s and 1970s.

I am appealing for people who taught with or were taught by Will to interview on a one-to-one basis. Your privacy will be assured, and this research has been approved by the Massey University Human Ethics Committee: Northern, Application 16/08.

If you are able to help, or know someone who can, please contact me on the email below.

Sincerely
Jacqui Burne
