October is traditionally the time to ring in the fall season – Halloween, falling leaves, apple orchards and pumpkin patches!  For the last 8 years, October has also been dedicated to Non-GMO awareness. A GMO, or genetically modified organism, is any organism whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory using genetic engineering techniques. Genetic modification affects many of the products we find on today’s grocery shelves.

A higher importance is being placed on clean label products by consumers.  Clean label products are items that don’t contain artificial ingredients, hormones or antibiotics.  These foods and beverages include simple, recognizable ingredients.  They are often certified Organic and Non-GMO. About 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer in their lifetime. It is likely that every one of us know someone who has been affected by it.  October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease.
