Beet juice boosts sprint times!
Consuming beets can make you run faster, a new study has found. While there has been a lot of research demonstrating the positive effects of beet juice for endurance sports, this was the first study to look at shorter duration activities. Times were improved by about 2% on sprints over 20 meters when participants had consumed nitrate-packed beet juice.
Much of the previous research demonstrated that beet juice makes muscles more efficient. This new study showed that beet juice also improves a muscle's ability to generate power repeatedly for explosive activities such as sprinting or high-intensity exercise. This could be enough to gain a competitive advantage in many sports.
It's no surprise, then, that beet juice is being discovered by athletes and teams looking for a healthy, all-natural performance boost.
