Newsletter #11 - Winter 2017

If you've visited our website recently, you must have noticed the amount of new compositions that have been placed in our webshop. We are extremely happy to welcome these new works and their composers to the MatchingArts Collective. Thanks to the 2nd Keuris Composers Contest that took place in 2016 many compositions for symphony orchestra and for piano, clarinet & cello have been published. In previous newsletters we introduced you to the winners of this contest: Jack Stone (chamber music) and Alice Hong (youth orchestra) but now you have the chance to take a look at the other compositions and it’s absolutely worth to do so!

Did you attend a concert by an MA-C member? Are you planning an event yourself? Did you read something that you think all contemporary music lovers should read? Please let us know by sending us an e-mail. We are happy to place our members' content in this newsletter!
Don’t forget to place your concerts and events in the MatchingArts Collective Events Calendar! Events placed in our calendar will also be highlighted on Facebook, Twitter en in the newsletter.

Intermezzo
Every month we'll put one of the MatchingArts members in the spotlight and tell you something about them and their work.

Intermezzo with Antonino Bono
Antonino Bono composed his ‘Ouverture’ for youth orchestra as a contribution to the 2nd Keuris Composers Contest. Antonino followed the classical sonata form and chose a tonal language. The composer describes the character of the piece as ‘bright and humorous’ and the work is really concentrated on the young performers. The theme of the ‘Ouverture’ has a populair sound and the experienced listener might recognize a tribute to the Tchaikovsky symphonies in the coda of the piece.
Curious? You can find Antonino's 'Ouverture' in our webshop.

Encore!

On Sunday March 5 the first edition of ‘In de Knop – de jongste componistendag’ will take place in De Observant in Amersfoort. This day is dedicated to the newest generation of composers and offers them a stage to perform their work and develop their creative skills. Next to the several concerts with new music, there will be workshops and presentations. Children may take part in the workshop ‘Land van Muziek’ which invites them to improvise on small instruments; there will be a workshop yoga and music; experienced composers will help the young composers notate their work and there will be an illustrator to help illustrate the compositions. Of course the day will focus on the youngest composers, but all adults are invited to hear them play and explore this world of composing and improvising with them. For those interested, there will also be a demonstration about how to start improvising/composing with young children.

On the 5th of february the fourth concert of the series.'Zolderkamertjesklassiek' (Classic in the Attic) will take place in Pand P, Eindhoven. Zolderkamertjesklassiek is a series of unique and intimate concerts by young professional musicians. The programmed music is mostly music that is not performed very often, because it is relativily new or unknown, but always very carefully selected to reach a broad audience.
Set in a former cinema, now a theater, with the use of lighting and projected images a wonderous setting is created every time.
The series is initiated and programmed by pianist and composer Daan van den Hurk. Every concert Daan invites a soloist to perform together with, or a duo with their own programming so that every concert a different instrument is in the lead. Next concert the young virtuoso saxofonist Deborah Witteveen is the guest soloist. Deborah has won multiple awards and often performs with the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble.
The concert will be a wonderous combination of saxofone, piano, soundtracks and stories with an enchanting result. With works by Dutch composers, a.o. Daan van den Hurk and Johan van der Linden.
