“It is better to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35)
In July, 204 volunteers gave 722 hours of their time at The New Love Center! These men and women are shining examples of what it means to give. We are continually blessed by their service and could not accomplish the great things we do without them. Words cannot express the thanks of everyone who benefits from their time and energy. Our volunteers receive donations, sort and store them, distribute meals, serve and clean in our café and always do so with a friendly smile, showing the love of Christ.

This past month, the Café served 525 dine-in meals. This vital program serves delicious and healthy meals Monday through Friday to everyone who wants one at no cost. As we continue toward our dream of building a new food hub, which will include a dining room and kitchen, we look forward to giving people the opportunity for fellowship and community, in addition to a hot meal.

In July, 37 volunteers gave 172 hours of their time to work in the Café. These volunteers helped prepare the meals and keep things clean. Without them, some of our clients might not be able to eat at all on any given day.

The New Love Center is entirely focused on addressing food insecurity. One of the most important ways we do that is through our Food Pantry, which is open the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month. In July, we distributed food to 870 clients, representing 424 households. The New Love Center also helped distribute food to 134 households through the MilitaryShare program at the American Legion and gave 77 Senior Boxes to seniors who meet financial guidelines. We continue to operate the Renovo Pop-Up Pantry, which provided food to another 135 individuals, and the Lock Haven Pop-Up Pantry, which served 293 individuals.

In the month of July, the Fresh Food Farmacy had 6 distribution days. We now have 33 households enrolled in the program, with 3 of those new in the month of July. We have started a new partnership through the Central PA Food Bank’s Farm to Table program with Walnut Run Farms in the valley. They will be donating fresh produce through the fall. We are able to use the produce at the FFF and take some to the Café. They donated 266 pounds of tomatoes, zucchini and onions.

“For I was hungry, and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me."
- Matthew 25:35

Each month since October 1, 2014, the New Love Center has provided thousands of meals to area residents who are food insecure. A friendly smile, an affirming conversation, and a box of healthy, nutritious food, makes an impact on people who need supplemental food items to get through the month. We are greatly thankful for the cadre of volunteers who make this outreach possible and all those who are responsible for supplying the food that we distribute.
