"We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”
Winston Churchill

A volunteer is someone whose life is marked by giving. Everything The New Love Center does is made possible by the wonderful volunteers who give their time to serve those in need. In the month of April, our volunteers gave over 1,100 hours to receive donations, sort and pack boxes, distribute food, and support our day-to-day operations in countless ways. Whether it was 1 hour or 100, thank you to everyone who volunteered to help secure food for the men, women, and children of our community who depend on The New Love Center to meet their daily needs.
Are you interested in becoming a volunteer?
You can change a life, perhaps even your own, by giving your time at TNLC!

We’d love to have you join us any time to see where we work, what we do, and answer any questions you may have. Please call Kristin in the office at 570-244-8838 to set up a time to visit or click here to find out more about volunteering with us.
Throughout the month of April, the Café served 1,959 meals for take-out. This vital program serves delicious and healthy meals Monday through Friday to everyone who wants one at no cost. As we continue toward our dream of building a new food hub, which will include a dining room and kitchen, we look forward to giving people the opportunity for fellowship and community, in addition to a hot meal.

In April, 96 volunteers gave over 297 hours of their time to work in the Café. These volunteers helped prepare the meals and deliver them to clients for curbside pickup. Our cook is ServSafe certified and we continue to follow all necessary practices in keeping with Covid-19 safety protocols.

Through creative and thoughtful preparation, the Café serves varied and healthy meals. The emphasis is on fresh fruits and vegetables, and high-protein ingredients. Almost nothing is fried and unhealthy foods are kept to a minimum. At The New Love Center, we believe in not only filling stomachs, but feeding the whole person for a better life.

A mainstay of The New Love Center is our food distribution, which happens on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month. In April, we distributed food to 1,155 clients. Of those individuals, 214 received food from us for the first time.

The New Love Center also helps operate a number of other programs, such MilitaryShares, which distributed food to 120 veterans this month, Elder Share, which gave out 67 boxes to seniors who meet financial guidelines, and the Jersey Shore Backpack program, which provided 179 students with bags of food to meet their needs over the weekends (1,020 total backpacks and Bulldog baskets). We also continue to operate the Renovo Pop-Up Pantry, which provided another 98 households with food in April. Eight (8) of those who received help from The New Love Center for the first time. Finally, Haven Cupboard (Lock Haven University Food Pantry) served 34 households, 3 for the first time.
This month saw our official ribbon cutting ceremony in partnership with Geisinger Health as we kicked off the pantry choice model for Fresh Food Farmacy at the Henry Street Annex. We encourage you to watch the powerful video below.
Our newly renovated Henry Street building houses the Fresh Food Farmacy.
This program provides fresh food to patients and their families living with Type 2 Diabetes. Patients who are identified as having A1C levels greater than 8.0 and as being food insecure are given diabetes education, cooking supplies and recipes, and a referral to The New Love Center. Those individuals then receive enough nutritious food to make ten meals each week that will better support their health.

In April, our Fresh Food Farmacy served 25 families, serving 64 people people. These individuals enter the building, receive a shopping cart, and make their way past shelves and refrigerators to pick out the items they need to make fresh meals. With healthy food, education, and support, we're providing people living with Type 2 Diabetes a special kind of medicine that doesn't come from a bottle.

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”— Malachi 3:10

The Lord is waiting to open the flood gates so that our storehouse will not be able to store all of it.  You are the door in which He will use to accomplish this.  As the hands and feet of Christ, we are called to care for those who do not have.  Imagine what the floodgates would look like if we poured out love as God does?
