Music Inspiration
Hey <<First Name>> ~

I feel so lucky to have loving friends & family, cool current & former colleagues who support, inspire and challenge me, trust and partner with me. As I type this, countless fun, funny, tough and thrilling memories move through my mind like a Viewmaster on overdrive. Hope you find time this weekend to reflect on – or chill with – those you treasure most. And for those we’ve lost, may their memories shine brightest of all. I’m a hugger like my mom, so I’m sending you a BIG one.

THE GOOD THING that happened in November
Yep... still celebrating, and gotta give a shout out to our World Champion Chicago Cubs. WHAT A team, and season, and the most amazing playoffs, World Series, and Game 7 ever! Cautiously optimistic, I never counted on any win until the final out. Maddon said he never believed they couldn't pull it off. I like his outlook better (maybe it rubbed off on me, in my miraculous Cubs celebration experience at Wrigley Field!)

May we all dig deep for confidence and optimism,
and get in on the action… in our communities and beyond.

Bright Beat and Green Music Fest were thrilled to be honored by Fest Forums as Best of the Fests  for Music Festival Sustainability at Monday night’s award ceremony in Santa Barbara. Recognized for industry-leading sustainable operations, eco-mindful sponsor integration, and significant community outreach+education. We couldn’t have done it without all of our great partners, particularly festival founder and friend, Robert Gomez. It was humbling to receive praise from last year's winner, Vans Warped Tour, and beyond fun to share a stage with the likes of Kim & Jack Johnson, Bruce Dern and Quentin Tarantino Check out the "SIZZLE REEL”.
You know when an artist really strikes you, and you just want to tell everyone about them? That's how we feel about Sunflower Bean, a young trio out of NYC. We caught their scorching set at Lincoln Hall in October. If you're interested, check out their performance on KEXP.

Building strategic partnerships is what we love to do! So we were totes excited by the success of the Banners to Beach Bags material reuse partnership we coordinated with the NFL & Chicago social enterprise, the Rebuilding Exchange. Featuring 'deadrope' straps from Brooklyn Boulders Chicago, they're available now! Grab your very own eco + socially sustainable stocking stuffer today!

It was another packed and fulfilling summer at Bright Beat. At Green Music Fest we diverted a record-best 89% of waste generated by a crowd of 20,000, with over a dozen awesome non-profits gaining valuable exposure through our community outreach and hundreds of fans pedaling to the beat at the people-powered stage. We are always proud to partner with our friends at New Belgium Brewery in their responsibly-produced, radically-popular, and Dr. Dog-rockin' Tour de Fat. At HopStop 2016, a sold-out craft beer fundraiser for the Frederick Olmsted Society of Riverside, patrons were eager to learn from Eco Educators, who helped divert over 90% of festival waste, and were intrigued by the Zero Hero tents we received through a Can'dAid #CrushItCrusade grant.

Outside of Chicagoland, Bright Beat’s food recovery partnership with catering, in conjunction with Conscious Alliance’s food drive, resulted in a donation of over 14,690 meals at Electric Forest. We also got artists and fans in on the action, arranging post-set cleanups at Vertex Festival, with at little help from our friend David Shaw of The Revivalists

As I sit in this Loop campus cafe, I can’t help but feel a little dizzy when trying to reflect on my past two summers as an intern with Bright Beat. I was given a rare opportunity to contribute directly to the planning and supervision of events. After two summers, I’ve learned to crave the feeling of watching plans unfold without a hitch, or preventing hitches in super-clutch last minute maneuvers. I’ve learned how to roll with the punches as ideas don’t make it off the drawing board, and how to be ready for anything. Being a student at a university of over-achievers, I’ve adapted to a lifestyle where one must wear many hats. I’d like to offer a hearty thank you for allowing me to sport my variety of hats out in the wild. Here’s to a frenetic future made possible by TEAM BRIGHT BEAT!

CHICAGO SUSTAINABILITY TASK FORCE membership is growing, as Live Nation, The Field Museum and other large organizations and facilities join us to share best practices and advance all facets of sustainability across the city. We recently toured the Shedd Aquarium, learned about Chicago Park District initiatives, and shared insights over Goose Island beer. Next year's roundtable discussions will cover topics including: Food recovery/composting, alternative fuel/energy, sustainable purchasing, grants and incentivizing sustainable transportation. Contact us for more information, or to get involved!

We are excited to kick off the next phase of sustainability initiatives at the Brooklyn Bowl, grow the number of critically-acclaimed restaurants engaged in our We Compost | West Loop project, catch up with Michael Kiwanuka at Park West, and with all the early announcements we're already excited about next year's fun with Ween, Wilco, Thievery at EF, and of course PHISH IN MEXICO!!

Cheers to you & all you're looking forward to... live it up!
