Officer Election Meeting: December 2, 2017

Program: 2017 Officer Elections, Late Bloomers Show and Tell, and Raffle
Date:
Saturday, December 2, 2017
Time: 2:30PM - 4:30PM
Location: *Temescal Branch Library, 5205 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland, CA 94609
*Community Meeting Room: Before entering the main lobby up the stairs, take the stairwell downstairs on the left, then make a right. There is limited parking for library patrons and staff, so we would like to encourage everyone to carpool, park on the streets, or take public transit (*Both Rockridge and MacArthur BART stations are about 10 blocks away). There's also ample non-metered parking on Telegraph and in the surrounding neighborhoods within a pleasant stride from the library. Since we have limited time, please be punctual; we will be starting the meeting promptly.

2017 Officer Elections and Candidates:
This will be our last meeting of 2017, and so according to Article IV of our Bylaws it’s election time! If you are not familiar with the offices of the BACPS board, please refer to Article V of the Bylaws and Constitution for officer titles and roles. And as a member, it's also a good idea to familiarize yourself with the rest of the Bylaws.

As there are no actual contests for any of the officer positions this year (and one vacancy), we will just confirm our votes with show of hands or viva voce (by the voice) instead of ballots at this meeting. See Robert's Rules of Order for more information on this parliamentary procedure. Please be prepared to sign in at the door if you are a voting member to ensure that we have a quorum in attendance.
President: Brian Lipinski (current Vice-President, running unopposed)
Statement: "Over the course of 2017 as your VP, and 6 years as a dedicated member, speaker, and volunteer, I've toured, examined, and taken initiative of various roles, offices and committees in the service of BACPS. My candidacy is therefore based on experience and commitment. Recently, I've initiated our club's Tax-Exempt Status under IRC 501(c)(7): Social Club and will remain dedicated to our club's non-profit application, re-organization, growth, and brand. Lastly, as BACPS's representative for the 2018 ICPS Conference Planning Committee, I maintain that we will have another successful Show and Sale next year."
-Brian Lipinski, VP BACPS
Secretary: Rebecca Robinson (running unopposed)
Statement: "I'm an enthusiastic carnivorous plant grower who is seeking new challenges in the world of carnivorous plants! I've grown carnivorous plants over the last four years and while I grow a little bit of everything, bladderworts are my primary focus. I'm currently a graduate student studying ecology and evolutionary biology. I have Secretarial experience from serving on the Board of a local fisheries group. Since joining the BACPS, I've really come to appreciate the focus that the group has on education and conservation, values that I also share, and I hope to be able to work with the society to continue to move towards these goals."
-Rebecca Robinson
Treasurer: Pablo Ramudo (running unopposed)
Statement: "I started growing carnivorous plants in 2004 with a collection that has grown to include many Nepenthes, Cephalotus, Sarracenia, Heliamphora, Pinguicula, and Darlingtonia and been involved with BACPS since the beginning of my growing. I love trading plants and participating in meetings and shows. I've previously been the Treasurer for the Bay Area Water Works Association (BAWWA) which included keeping the books, paying bills, tracking and advising the board on investments, as well as filing taxes annually for the 501(c)(6) nonprofit; I'm currently serving my third term as President of that Board."
-Pablo Ramudo

Late Bloomers Show & Tell, and Raffle

Don't forget to bring along your favorite flora fatale to our Late Bloomer's Show and Tell! Each member can enter one (1) plant to be judged and voted on by membership. The plant that nets the most votes will win a rare Cephalotus follicularis clone!

Do you have nursery benches of trays needing a thinning? It's a perfect time to clear out your extra Sarracenia rhizomes, Nepenthes cuttings, or Drosera offsets so bring them along as donor plants for our final fundraiser raffle! This will be the last meeting of the year so don't forget to bring your cheer!

Membership Dues

According to the bylaws the dues are $12 per calendar year, prorated at $1 per month. The next opportunity for becoming a member in good standing will be at the December meeting, at which time the dues will be $12. As a reminder only members in good standing have the ability to vote, access to the library, or access to the club sales table or discounted hobby grower tables at the Show and Sale.
