Introduction to Audubon’s Wild Animals of North America - June 23, 2-3 pm
An introduction to the Currier’s special exhibition Audubon’s Wild Animals of North America (on view May 23 through August 30). John James Audubon, best known for his precise studies of birds, also made numerous prints of mammals, which he included in limited edition books. The books were popular during the Industrial Revolution, as the United States grew westward, and the public fascination with America’s unique and varied wildlife continued to grow.
NH People and Places- July 14, 2-3 pm
A fascinating look at the intersection of New Hampshire history and the history of American art. This lecture focuses on works in the Currier’s collection by New Hampshire-based artists, or artists who have some connection to the region, from the colonial period through present day. Highlights will include nineteenth-century White Mountains paintings, American Impressionism from the Seacoast, and works from modern and contemporary art of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Introduction to the Zimmerman House - August 11, 2-3 pm
An introduction to the Currier’s largest object in the collection: a house designed by America’s most preeminent architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. The Zimmerman House was designed in 1950 for a professional couple that spent the rest of their lives in the home and then donated the house and its contents to the Currier. Learn about Wright, the Zimmermans, the commission and design of the house and its Wright-designed garden and furnishings.
