content warning: anti-Black violence, police brutality

In light of this week’s murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officers, and the blatant racism against Chrisitan Cooper, we are outraged and concerned at the continued public assault on Black communities. The Markaz stands in solidarity to fight against systemic racism, white supremacy, police brutality, and particularly anti-Black culture that endangers Black lives and penalizes them for simply existing.

We grieve for and with the families of the victims, including George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and others, and with all Black people.

We also acknowledge the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on Black people, which has further laid bare inequitable racial and class structures in this country.

We also stand ready to counter anti-Blackness and racism within the Muslim community, and highlight some of the work being done specifically by and for Black Muslims.

We offer resources below for those wishing to process and/or organize, and we stand ready to offer support to those who need it, in whatever form and at whatever pace they wish.

In Solidarity,
Markaz Staff
