“People don't notice whether it's winter or summer when they're happy”

Looking out of my window, white is the dominant colour, with a heavy frost covering everything. The icy coating makes spotting and identifying almost anything worth foraging much more tricky, so perhaps a day for a brisk walk then some arm-chair foraging beside a roaring fire and a little testing of some warming, wild infusions? Take away the coating and there are still some fungi, greens and berries to be found if you look hard enough, though the coast would be my choice of location for a wider range.

You could also broaden your definition of foraging and turn to the wild to source materials for your festive decorations. This blog post of our gives you lots of ideas and inspiration.

I lack any imagination when it comes to buying presents. If you are a forager there is always a new book or bit of kit that you might want. This blog post gives some ideas for you to subtlety suggest to you loved ones. These include a mushroom knife, basket and some books. Gift vouchers for places on our courses are also available.

Have a great Christmas. I hope to see you again next year.

The Booze Walk (Dorchester - 13th May PM) is proving popular. This will be hosted by Andy Hamilton (, a multiple award-winning author, brewer and an expert on wild food and sustainability. He is the author of the best-selling Booze for Free and Brewing Britain: The Quest for the Perfect Pint. He writes for The Guardian and The Daily Telegraph amongst others and frequently appears on TV and Radio talking about foraging and booze. You may have seen him on Autumnwatch, Countryfile, The Alan Titchmarsh Show and more.

On Andy's wild booze walks he takes a group of people out and introduces them to the plants that grow at our feet; plants that all have a secret history. You also get to sample a variety of his wild concoctions!
