  • Jaime Hough: 
    Jaime won second place in the College of Health & Human Sciences "Health and Disease: Science, Technology, Culture and Policy graduate student competition! 
  • Jonathan Freeman: 
    --  Jonathan won a Smithsonian Minority Awards Internship for the upcoming summer. Jonathan will work with Damion Thomas, curator at the National Museum of African American History and Culture on "African Americans and the Anti-Apartheid Movement."

    --  The J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board has selected Jonathan Freeman for a Fulbright award to South Africa.  This is an amazing accomplishment for a graduate student.  Way to go, Jonathan!! 
  • Eliot Blackburn: 
    Eliot co-authored an article that was published this week in Feminist Studies.  
  • Pam Sari: 
    Pam was nominated and won the 2016 Graduate School’s Excellence in Teaching Award, Purdue's highest award in recognition of graduate student teachers.  
  • Kera Lovell: 
    Kera has won a 2016-17 Purdue Research Foundation Research Grant.  
  • Kadari Taylor-Watson: 
    Kadari won the great opportunity to participate in the Humanities Without Walls Pre-Doctoral Summer Workshop.  
  • Annagul Yaryyeva: 
    Congratulations Annagul on receiving the Civil Society Scholar Award from the Open Society Foundation for 2015-16.

In an effort to better highlight and celebrate the wonderful work by American Studies students, faculty, and alumni we are launching Last Friday, a monthly newsletter for our program.  

As the name suggests, the newsletter will go out on the last Friday of each month during the academic year, an apt moment to reflect on the events of the past month and signal the activities in upcoming weeks
