AMST News:

--  Thank you to all who joined Dr. Rachel Lee for lunch/dinner and came to hear the talk.

--  Congratulations Virginia Pleasant on winning the Purdue Student Service Learning Grant Program for community Service/Service Learning Projects on her project "Heirloom Seed Library at the Farm at Prophetstown State Park", establishing an heirloom seed library to complement the Farm's existing mission of providing access to heirloom varieties of seeds for individuals who visit Prophetstown State Park.

--  Aria Halliday, American Studies Ph.D Candidate speaks to the Purdue Exponent about her talk, "OMG, Look at Her Butt: Self-Objectification, memetic Culture and Nicki Minaj's Anaconda Feminism".  How images in popular cutlure - and ho we form our conceptions of those images - dominate the way we behave towards, identify with and relate to others.

--  Congratulations to Aria Halliday & Na'eemah Webb for placing second and third in the NCBS essay contest.

--  Jennifer Sdunzik and Annagul Yaryyeva led workshops in promoting cultural identity and diversity through the Purdue Extension's learning network in Frankfort, IN.  Please see the article here in the Purdue Exponent.

-- Boyd Smith was featured in the Journal and Courier, Unsung hero, serving the community through art.

-- Congratulations to Lisa Young on winning a Ford Foundation Fellowship!!

In an effort to better highlight and celebrate the wonderful work by American Studies students, faculty, and alumni we are launching Last Friday, a monthly newsletter for our program.

As the name suggests, the newsletter will go out on the last Friday of each month during the academic year, an apt moment to reflect on the events of the past month and signal the activities in upcoming weeks
Please make sure to use the link below for submissions.  Be sure to send news/events you wish to announce or you may email Brandi.  We don't want to miss anything!
