Engagement in Isolation

The working from home balance. (Furrowed brow in concentration, not frusteration)

Recent Reflections

No doubt you have all received many COVID related emails in the last two weeks. I know my inbox has been overflowing with messages from everyone who has my email and I am defiantly at a saturation point as I suspect you may be. But as the events of the last few weeks have unfolded some really incredible and challenging things have been happening locally and in ministry. I couldn't help but write you with an update as well as wanting to reach out to you and see how things are going for you and if there are prayer requests or specific areas Katie and I can support you in. So here we go. In the spirit of sanity I will keep this brief and direct.

Locally between the virus outbreak, a shooting in Horseshoe Bend, and our VP of Adventures getting into a severe motorcycle accident, things have been heavy. And yet it continues to be evident that God is faithful.

As we have had to pivot from pre-existing plans for spring adventure trips, training's, local programs, etc. God continues to inspire and teach us new things as we seek for ways to authentically engage our students in the midst of physical distance. Weekly live events on Facebook, personal calls and texts to students to check in on a deeper level and mutual support between staff as we each figure out how to work most effectively from home are all elements that we are diving head first into right now. As adventure missionaries, many of these digital formats seem not only impersonal but even like the antithesis of  what we pursue in every other season of ministry but right now disconnection is not an option. In fact, connection is too important.

So I now look to YOU! How can Katie and I be praying for you today? Do you have any poignant needs we can help meet? Need some human interaction? Can we set up a time to video chat or phone call?

Thank you for your continued prayer, financial support, and care as we move forward. You are loved and appreciated!

Prayer and Thanks

  • Prayer for Horseshoe bend in the wake of a random shooting two weeks ago in which one 12 year old boy was killed. This event has rocked our community  and the timing with social isolation had been challenging.
  • Thankful for our team and inspiration to be creative together as we seek new and creative ways to connect with students on digital platforms.
  • Prayers continue to be answered in our YACC program as we continue to connect with students on a deeper level especially over the phone and text in the last two weeks as we have been checking in.
  • Prayer for our VP of Adventures Paul Spence as he heals from surgery and embarks on the long road to recovery. More details and prayer requests can be found HERE
Again, thank you and please reach out with your prayer requests, and any needs Katie and I can support you in!
