Hi Everyone,

As we draw to a close for those of us in lockdowns, there might be less time for some of the things we have been doing more of! … such as reading, but we need to be mindful that self-care activities such as this are incredibly important. It takes a while to get into a new habit – you might be surprised to see how long it takes (see my post below). If you have created new routines during the Pandemic that have helped you, whether this be a regular walk, quiet time listening to a podcast or anything else - then can I suggest you continue it!

For this month’s read - I am showcasing Arianna Huffington, co-founder of the Huffington Post. I have heard her speak and read her books, she is inspirational. Her follow up book called the Sleep Revolution is also good if anyone is having problems sleeping.

Finally, I have also included a movie that I saw a little while ago, but that I loved – The Octopus Teacher. All I will say is that if you haven’t heard of it then just watch it!

Until next month,

What I'm Reading
The book Thrive by Arianna Huffington is one that I return to many times, I have also gifted it to friends. Arianna is a big supporter of managing your life and how to survive.
Two key takeaways from the book:
1. Avoid late night scrolling on your phone (the mechanism as well as back light can seriously affect your sleep)
2. Charge your phone outside of your bedroom so you don’t get tempted!

What I'm listening to
I have been listening to Lewis Howes, The School of Greatness for years and there is always something new to learn or another perspective I can adopt. Lewis interviews real game changers that leave you feeling inspired!

What I'm watching
This is an incredibly moving and inspiring film that touches on the fragility of life. The Octopus Teacher tells the story of how Craig Foster forged an unusual bond with an octopus off Cape Town's peninsula. Foster describes the effect of their relationship and the life lessons he gained from the time spent together.

Who I'm following
One of only eleven female Cardiothoracic surgeons in Australia, I have followed Dr Nikki Stamp for a while now. She’s obviously a staunch supporter of heart health for women, is also a frequent media contributor, has authored two books, and uses her voice to incite change. Check out her social media accounts where she debunks bizarre health myths.

Quotes I live by
I am a big believer in creating good habits, and it’s got me through some tough times. Did you know that it only takes 21 days to create a new habit? And if you then continue with that new habit for the next 90 days (around 3 months) then you are more likely to keep doing it and create a lifestyle change. Whenever something feels hard (such as exercise!) I often think of this.
