In Her Defense is here!

Time Served's villain gets her day in court...

If you've read Time Served, then you know Caitlin Dufresne is a handful. Gorgeous, ambitious, and ruthless, she's scaling the corporate ladder in three-inch Louboutins and gleefully stomping on the fingers of anyone who gets too close. She wasn't much kinder to me, either. I started and scrapped this story five times before Caitlin finally approved the opening chapters. I threw away my first hero and came up with someone better, too - someone who could go toe to toe with Caitlin, her high heels, and her attitude, and come out on top...sometimes. Because Caitlin's reputation isn't just a rumour - it's a fact. I didn't want to shy away from writing a female character who had done a few questionable things to get where she's at, I wanted to understand her. I wanted to confront her. And then I wanted to redeem her. And somewhere along the way, both the hero and I fell in love with her. Because as Caitlin herself would ever-so-modestly tell you - she really is that good.

Caitlin Dufresne has never loved anyone as much as she loves winning. A ruthless fifth-year associate at an elite Chicago law firm, she’s on the fast track to partner...until a stupid, serious error enrages her bosses. Caitlin's continued refusal to share work—or credit—lands her a forced two-week vacation. She needs to regroup and learn to be part of a team, not just the star.

When she meets Eli Grant, head of the firm’s IT department, Caitlin knows the overgrown frat boy isn't her type. But too much alcohol and a very public game of Truth or Dare turn into a dirty, breathless one-night stand. Which turns into a (mostly naked) two-week fling. Which turns into something that makes Caitlin incredibly nervous, despite the great sex.

Eli shows her the many upsides to sleeping in, and for the first time ever, Caitlin has more than the law waiting for her at home. But when she returns to the office and the relentless demands of a high-profile case, Caitlin must decide if winning this one is worth losing Eli forever.

INSPIRATION PHOTOS
Sometimes I use them, sometimes I don't, it just depends. In this case, I found the perfect pictures and referred to them frequently. What do you think? Will these guys match up with the characters you imagine when reading?

Inspiration Picture: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
Red is Caitlin's favourite colour, and Rosie's beauty and confidence make her the perfect inspiration for this character. How many people do you know that can rock a red pantsuit? And don't you just want to see her hook up with the I.T. guy, not a fellow suit?

Inspiration Picture: David Denman
Though this photo is from his time on The Office, it was actually his small role as Ed on Parenthood that made me stand up and notice David Denman. You know when someone's sexiness sort of sneaks up on you? That quality made him the perfect match for Caitlin.
