What People are Saying...

*You're still writing books? Oh. Do you actually make money doing that? - my sister

*The romance is beautiful and real, a classic slow-burner with heaps of tension...
- Annika from Goodreads

*Is it another one of those...romance-type stories? You know what you should write? Harry Potter.  - my mother

*This story is unexpectedly deep. The characters were multi-faceted and flawed. Although their flaws made them easy to be annoyed with, they made them even easier to love. - mells_view from Goodreads

*I pre-ordered. - my dad

This is the part in the newsletter where I'd normally share the inspiration pics I used for my characters, but instead of a story, I started this book with a title and a cover and went from there. So the guy on the cover? That's Aidan!

This book turned out to be a lot of fun for me to write. I loved the way my "simple" idea turned into something far deeper than I expected, and the freedom of this experience gave me a lot of confidence in the story and my own ability to tell the stories I want to read. I used the tagline "Be careful what you wish for..." but it very well could have been "expect the unexpected" and both would have worked. I love being surprised by stories, and this one is no exception.

So what's next?

Wellll... I didn't exactly start that contemporary romance I mentioned in my last newsletter, because this story popped up and sort of took over. I did write a 25-page outline for the other book, though, so it's ready to go and I'll get started as soon as the day-to-day tasks of releasing this book wrap up.

One of the ways I gauge if I'm "ready" to write a book is when I can see the scenes in my head, fully formed, characters' faces, smiles, frowns. And that's where I'm at with this story, so I'm really ready to (finally, for real) get started. And, in a rare turn of events, I know what I'd like to write after that as well, so as long as I don't melt in my sweltering apartment during these upcoming summer months, I hope to make good progress on both of those projects.
