It's time!

Release day is finally here! It feels like forever ago that I announced this title, and I'm so thrilled to send it out into the world. The idea for this story was sparked by an anthology call, and the opportunity to write something out of my comfort zone (a novella, something with royalty, a different writing voice) was one I really appreciated. It's like trying step aerobics for the first time--you feel foolish and utterly graceless, but once you get the hang of it (or just get comfortable falling down in front of a room of strangers), you wonder why you ever hesitated.

I wanted to write a book that turned expectations and tropes on their head, and a heroine that didn't have to change to suit the world, but was in a position to inspire change in the world around her. Growing up I had a friend who, no matter how desperately she wished to be different, couldn't be anything but herself. When you're 13, being unable to conform feels like the worst thing ever, but looking back, I admire that trait, and her inability to be less than true to who she really was. That's Brinley. She’s curious and impulsive and her lack of self-restraint has put her in a lot of awkward and precarious positions, but the story is about Brinley—and those around her—coming to realize that maybe it’s not time for her fit the definition of “good princess,” maybe it’s time to change it. That’s a really empowering message, and one I wouldn't have minded seeing when I was younger. I hope you like it!
Notorious for leaping off roofs, maiming foreign royals, and that twerking incident, Brinley Cantrella of Estau is nobody’s definition of a good princess. She’s fearless and bold, not good and gracious. And after a lifetime of being told she’s unfit to be queen, wearing the crown and helping to usher Estau into a new era is the one dream she’s never dared chase.
But when her older sister abdicates the throne, all Brinley has to do to inherit the role is not twerk, not maim anybody, and definitely not get caught fooling around topless with Prince Finn, her childhood crush, the only man she’s ever loved…and her sister’s former future husband.
Finn embodies the definition of good. Tall and handsome, serious and honorable, he always does the right thing—including agreeing to marry his ex’s sister to cover up this latest scandal. Brinley has fallen down stairs, broken teeth and broken bones, but this is the first time her heart has ever been broken. She now has the crown and the prince, and on the surface, life is good—but is being married to a man everyone swears could never love her back good enough?
As always, thank you so much for your support! If you've managed to read this far, go ahead and click here to be taken to a special prize page where you can enter to win a Bad Princess-themed gift!
