Dear athletes,

This newsletter special shall give you an overview about our work in the past and current year.

Tournaments and other competitions

The tournament season 2017 has been successful throughout. Most if not all tournaments have been well received with stable participation numbers throughout. The highlight and biggest success has been the first ICO Speedminton® World Championships outside of Germany. We want to express our thanks and admiration for the great event hosted by Lidia and her team in Warsaw, Poland.

The total participation in ICO tournament in 2017 has been very positive with more than 6500 registrations in 75 tournaments.

Another positive change worth mentioning are the improvements in planning the tournaments calendar. The 2018 calendar has been published far ahead of the 2018 season with the Euros 2018 and World Championships 2019 announced far ahead for better planning. Thanks to all organizers for working with us on this matter.

Ophardt Touch has been introduced as an upgrade for the ICO tournament and players database plus as the new standard software for the organization of Crossminton tournaments.

The tournament list for 2018 and the Nations Cup dates can be found on crossminton.org including the 2019 ICO Speedminton World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Sports development

Our Spanish member CanariaSpeed has been and still is working with us to grow the player base and found new clubs in Spain. Thanks to their relentless work and some support from our side they have been establishing 8 new clubs and found Crossminton Espana within the last year.  More informations about their project can be found here:

http://www.canariaspeed.es/wp-content/uploads/CROSSMINTON-AMBASSADOR.pdf

Another ICO supported project is focused on the growth of our local Crossminton clubs.

The project has been started with the Fürsty Speeders in Bavaria, Germany. The approach has been to announce an open training date with the catch phrase “Talentsuche”/ talent casting” with posters around your training facility. Although the approach might sound a bit old school in times of social media the results have been exceptional. More information and the documents can be found here:

Project JunCo is based on the need for a better cooperation between clubs and trainers that work with junior players in order to further develop junior players and tournaments. A social-media platform is planned as a communication tool to exchange ideas, plans, experiences and training methods between participating subjects.
We would like to roll out these projects in more countries because it seems to be a very successful tool.

General Assembly and new board

The General Assembly in February 2017 has been a success and layed the groundwork to the development in the last 12 month. The minutes can be found here:

In 2017 we have successfully transformed the ICO back to voluntary basis, established a new ICO Board with monthly board meetings, resulting in an improved decision-making process and financial stability of the organization.

Our aim for 2018 is to further improve our communication including monthly newsletters and try to include more people into achieving our common goals.

Marketing and PR

We used the World Championships last year to start a survey with our players in order to define what people think about our sport. The results have been used to create a unique claim:

Our sport is called Crossminton

C - for Community
R - for Racket
O - for Obsession
S - for Speed
and
S - for Sport.

Our players love to be part of our community playing the addictively fast and fun racket game Crossminton.

Education

In 2017 we had trainer educations in Spain and Crossminton workshops in Germany. Our goal for 2018 is the modernization and expansion of educational structure and host more workshops. The fixed dates for 2018 are:

03.03.18                 Crossminton Basic Trainer Workshop Poland/ Skawina

25.-27.05.18           Training Camp 2018/North Germany/ Westerstede
30.11. - 02.12.18     Trainer education in Germany/ Inzell

In the name of the ICO board of executives I wish all of you a successful year 2018 and hope to see many of you at this years ICO Speedminton® Slovenian Open.

With best regards,
Matjaz Sustersic
