FROM THE DEAN

I am delighted to start this second edition of Inside UNSW Law with the exceptional news of UNSW Law’s Professor Megan Davis who has been elected by her peers at the UN as Chair of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in New York. This month we also congratulate alumna Gabrielle Upton, who has recently been appointed the first female Attorney-General of NSW. The congratulations continue as current UNSW Law student Tamara Kenny becomes the eighth UNSW Law recipient of the John Koowarta Reconciliation Law Scholarship.

My colleagues at the Law School continue to carry out exceptional work in terms of teaching, research and public engagement. Read about the amazing work of a UNSW Law research team on the regulation of mobile money in Timor-Leste. The month of April sees competition law at the forefront of legal news in Australia and UNSW Law is partnering with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) for a forum at our CBD campus to showcase UNCTAD’s current and forthcoming activities to visiting global competition law regulators.

Last month I had the pleasure of attending the UNSW Law 30 Year Alumni Reunion, it was wonderful to see the classes of 1984 and 1985 reunite, reconnect and update each other on the years since graduation. We have a wide array of events lined up for the coming months, I look forward to meeting you there.
