Announcing The Results!
2016 Wine & Cider Awards

It is my distinct privilege to announce the Official Results for the 2016 Seattle ~ Oregon ~ Idaho Wine & Cider Awards. Celebrating our 11th year of hosting the Pacific Northwest’s largest and most comprehensive wine and cider recognition programs, we share our immense appreciation and gratitude to our Sommelier Team, Scoring Team, Production Team, Tasting Panel and a Special VIP acknowledgement to Scoring Captain Peggy Michael Reddy, Production Captain Craig Booth, and Sommelier Captains Dave Bender and Nick Karl Enoch Davis.  And lastly, a Toast to Alan Alabastro Photography for capturing the spirit of the awards evaluation!  Click Here for PHOTOS.

This year our esteemed panel of 20 local, regional and national wine, cider and beverage professionals tasted and evaluated a record 1350+ wines, ciders and fortifieds in 59 variety/style categories and 3-Price Tiers: ($20 - Under), ($20.01 - $35.00), ($35.01 - Over). We confirm every bottle, bag, box, and can by hand more than nine times throughout this process. Our Sommelier Team chills, pops, proofs every entry to ensure its provenance and condition. Wines are poured in hand-polished Riedel Overture Magnum Stemware, 99% free of unintended flaws, at a moderate chill for all whites and ciders and room-temperature for all reds.  The Tasting Panel consists of five teams of four professionals each.  Each professional reviews an average of 13 samples at once per flight and evaluates each in five categories: Aroma / Bouquet, Flavor / Palate, Typicity / Character, Balance / Complexity, Overall Impression.  All samples are tasted "Single-Blind" - meaning variety or style are known, but neither price nor producer are revealed.  Panelists taste approximately 75 glasses over 3 hours in the morning then enjoy a lunch buffet and "the perfect palate cleansing station" throughout the day, and another 75 glasses over three hours in the afternoon.

This year’s entries showed extremely well and earned some of the highest praise to date.  For this reason, I am thrilled to share these 2016 Grand Awards of Excellence and announce the new BEST of SHOW ~ Double Gold Award Winners.
