Miller Park Sales Tax may be Coming to an End (Finally!)

According to a report prepared for the stadium district board, the Miller Park sales tax could end in about 2 years.  The tax was established to pay for the $290 million for construction of the stadium, plus interest.  It has been in effect since 1996 and is collected in five counties, including Racine County.  The report, prepared by consultant Public Financial Management Inc. indicated the .1% sales tax could end in late 2019 or early 2020.

According to the Executive Director of the Southeastern Wisconsin Professional Baseball Park District, a two-thirds vote by the Miller Park board is required to certify to the Wisconsin Department of Revenue that construction costs have been paid. Ending this tax for Racine County will be one of my top priorities in the next legislative session.

Tours of Oshkosh Correctional and Green Bay Correctional

Oshkosh Correctional Facility
As a member of the Correctional Facility Planning Committee, I have had the opportunity to tour several Wisconsin correctional institutions.  Most recently, I toured Green Bay Correctional Institution, Wisconsin's oldest prison and Oshkosh Correctional, which is one of the largest prisons in Wisconsin.  The purpose for these visits is to look for efficient programs within the correctional facilities that might be replicated in order to save money throughout the Wisconsin corrections system.

Happy 101st Birthday Dad!

On Tuesday, March 20th, I adjourned Senate Session in honor of my father, Lt. Colonel Dr. Herluf Wanggaard on the anniversary of his 101st birthday if he had lived.  LYB, Dad.

At the Capitol

K-12 students from both Racine and Kenosha presented Project Lead the Way presentations at the Capitol Wednesday.  Project Lead the Way is an engaging and thought-provoking program, where students develop critical thinking skills through hands-on project-based learning, preparing them to take on real-world challenges.  Great job students!

In the District

Last weekend I had the pleasure of presenting 2 Eagle Scouts with a legislative citation recognizing their admirable accomplishment of attaining the level of Eagle Scout.  Fine job Eagle Scout Matthew Sisak (Pictured above at St. Rita's school in Racine) and Eagle Scout Tanner Crow (Pictured below at Camp OhDaKoTa in Burlington).
