Wisconsin's Tax Ranking Best in 50 Years

Since I first took office in 2011, lowering Wisconsin taxes has been one of my top priorities and we're seeing the results!

Wisconsin's overall tax burden as a percentage of personal income is now the lowest in 50 years, according a recent study by the US Census Bureau.  As recently as 2010, Wisconsin was in the top 10 highest taxed states, in 2015 it was below the national average. Wisconsin's improvement since 2010 is the third best in the nation.

There is a two-year delay on tax data from the Census Bureau, so this doesn't even count the tax relief we've provided in the last 2 budgets. There is more tax relief coming. In this budget, we've eliminated 2 whole taxes, and kept property taxes lower than 8 years ago. Some of these tax reforms will be reflected in data provided in 2019.

Hundreds of Businesses signing up to Partner with Foxconn

More than 200 companies have already signed up as potential Foxconn suppliers and contractors

Last week I provided information for businesses who are interested in doing business with Foxconn.  This week the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) announced that more than 200 companies have already signed up on the Wisconsin Supply Chain Marketplace.

Annual Capitol Ornament
Commemorating the Capitol's 100th Anniversary

This year's ornament celebrates the 100th anniversary of the fourth Capitol building.  After a fire destroyed the third Capitol building in 1904, the construction on the current building began.  One hundred years after the completion of the new building in 1917, we celebrate it's centennial.

This year's Capitol ornament is the 15th in the series.  It celebrates our great Capitol and Lew Porter, who supervised the day-to-day work of constructing the Capitol from 1906-1917.  One side of the ornament shows the building under construction and the reverse is the Capitol as it stands today.

The ornament costs $20 and can be purchased at the Tour Desk at the Capitol or online at the Wisconsin Historical Society.  Proceeds from the sale of the ornament will go to the Capitol Restoration Fund.  To purchase the ornament online: Click.

Kansasville Grade School

On Thursday, September 28th I had the pleasure of visiting with Kansasville Elementary.  I toured the school, spoke to the students about my journey towards becoming a Senator and explained some of my responsibilities and job duties.
I also had a chance to read to the younger K-4 students and answer questions.

What a great group of teachers and students.  Thank you Kansasville Elementary!

Welcome to the Office
New legislative aide joins my staff

I have a strong group behind me in Madison, and we’ve recently added another. We are excited that Kody Kvalheim joined our team on September 13th. Kody graduated from UW-Whitewater in Communications and Business Law, and will be our new Legislative Assistant in the office, working on Healthcare, Environmental, and Labor issues. Kody joins us, having experience in various roles throughout state government. He’s already shown great potential, and is a quick thinking problem solver whose skillset has been a welcome addition to the team. In his spare time, he has a passion for reading, live music, and skiing. Welcome, Kody!

In the District

On Monday, September 25th I toured the Community Oriented Policing House (COP House) in Mount Pleasant with Milwaukee area folks.  Milwaukee is considering utilizing the program, which is already successfully being used in Racine.  The program uses vacant city-owned homes that have been renovated by community partners. The homes are used by Police officers as their home base to police the neighborhood, build relationships with residents and identify criminal activity, while also helping residents with area agencies.
