 State of the State
Local student highlighted in the Governor's speech

Governor Walker used his speech to highlight the tremendous progress we’ve made in the last eight years - record low unemployment, a record number of people working, record investment in K-12 education and income and property taxes are lower than eight years ago.

At the same time, Governor Walker also laid out plans to address the challenges in Wisconsin – guaranteeing health coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, and a much-needed new plan for juvenile corrections. I like that he is highlighting and developing ideas from both political parties. We all want the same thing – a better Wisconsin. This is an exciting opportunity for all of us.

A number of constituents attended the State of the State speech at the Capitol, including Amber Beale.  Amber was mentioned in the Governor's speech for being a student at Gateway Technical College, as well as being a part of the Foxconn team.  Amber is an example of a local student gaining the skills needed for the new jobs that are coming to Wisconsin.

2018 Senate Scholar

Student from Saint Joseph Catholic Academy in Kenosha

This week we had a constituent from Saint Joseph Catholic Academy in Kenosha participate in the Senate Scholar Program.  High school juniors and seniors from around the State of Wisconsin participate in a week-long, intensive program at the State Capitol.  While in the program, Posey McKeon was introduced to many facets of the legislative process.  She met with legislative support agencies, legislative staff, the Governor's staff, a Supreme Court Justice, the media, lobbyists and University of Wisconsin- Madison faculty members.  Scholars then put their knowledge into action.  When the Senate was on the floor, they provided necessary page staff services.  Rose did a great job!
