Track is back!
The track is re-opening this Thursday (December 3rd) as the national lockdown eases this week. Due to the new track arrangements (please see previous newsletters and the AGM minutes for more information), athletes will now need to register for their training sessions via their training group spreadsheet (see the links below). This is important both for Covid-19 track and trace and so the club can continue using the track for the foreseeable future as we move to a subscription model for receiving track fees.

Please contact your training group coach or leader for more information about training this Thursday and ensure you fill in the appropriate spreadsheet below prior to attending a session
London Youth Games CX

The London Youth Games is conducting a Virtual Cross Country Event for the London Boroughs. The overall purpose of the Virtual Event is to get young people out running and to give an element of purpose/competition to athletes who are probably still training at the moment with no races anytime soon. The overall champions will be determined by the number of participants. Lewisham are looking for participants to represent the borough. Borough eligibility is based on where you live or the location of your school attended.

There are four age categories per gender, which determines what distance you have to run. They are as follows:

School Year

  Year 6

  Year 7 & 8

  Year 9 & 10

  Year 11 & 12

You can choose your own route; it doesn’t have to be under XC conditions. For example, if you have access to a track you can run around this the required number of times. You can try several times before submitting your final result. What is important is being able to prove your time and distance. If you have a tracker on your running watch or mobile phone, that would be acceptable for example. For those who don’t, a photo of a stopwatch would be fine. [Please note that they will only accept proven tracked times to be included on their leaderboard].

You are welcome to enter the event yourself, entry is via the LYG website. You can run anytime from Saturday 21st November at 9am through to Sunday 6th December afternoon.

Alternatively, it would be easier for you and the team, if you send the details to so they can be bulk entered. So please use that email address to signal your intent to take part and you can be kept upto date. Please note the running details must be emailed across by 5pm Sunday 6th December.

Club AGM
The Kent AC AGM was held virtually via Zoom last Wednesday, with a record number of club members in attendence. A big thank you to all who wrote reports, contributed and attended. Minutes of the meeting were sent out to all members on Friday which we encourage you to read.

Thank you to all members of the committee for their work over the past 12 months, especially during this strange year, and all of the curveballs the pandemic has brought to the club. We are grateful to have such a dedicated group. A big shout-out to outgoing secretary John Barron, who has been an outstanding member of the committee over the last 12 months. From a communications perspective: in the inception of this newsletter and the member-help-member project, as well as giving a voice to many in the club. Thank you John.

Thank you also to Pete Lighting for his fantastic work as men's track captain for the last four years. Welcome to new committee members Dan Ansell (club secretary), Ian Elwood (men's track captain) and Ronnie Haydon (new addition to the communications team).

Fundraise for the club with your Christmas shopping
The easyfundraising donations have been flooding in. Thank you to all those who signed up since the announcement at the AGM through the club's easyfundraising page. Top tip: you can install the easyfundraising browser extension to never miss a donation!

An update on online payments to Kent AC
As mentioned last week, payments to the club can now be made using Stripe. This takes a payment from your credit or debit card which is processed through Stripe.
The main advantage to the club is that the processing fee charged is much lower. For example, on a payment of £50.00 (subs plus EA for most people) PayPal will take a fee of £1.75 whereas Stripe will only take £0.90.
This week's show is with Zuzana Nemeckova discussing nutrition. You can listen to the award-winning podcast on Spotify now.
S&C with Ellie!
Please join Ellie for her last virtual strength & conditioning session before we return to the track next week. Tuesday at 18.45 - 19.30. No experience necessary, but a mat is required.
Meeting ID: 840 3937 1944
