Dear Ascension Public Schools Families,

Happy Springtime! I know everyone is looking forward to the last break of the school year that will begin next week. It is always a good time to take a breath before we head into that extremely busy and critical time of a school year.

Core Values Medallion honoreeWe are so grateful for the hard work of our students, teachers, support staff, and both building and district level leaders for what has been to point another successful school year. Additionally, we are grateful for the support, hard work, and ongoing encouragement from our outstanding parents!  We are also thankful for the many community members and business partners that embrace our work in schools whether they have children that are served or not.

This week, we celebrated employees who received our very first Core Values Medallions. These individuals were selected by school and district leaders for exhibiting our district core values of Teamwork, Service, Leadership and Learning -- all qualities that we cultivate in both our employees and our students. I encourage you to visit our Facebook page, where you can read about each of these very special honorees.

parent guide to LEAPWhen we return on Tuesday, April 23, there are so many important events that remain for this school year. Two of these important events are state testing and graduation. Our third through eighth graders will participate in annual state testing (LEAP),and our high school students will be taking state administered End of Course (EOC) tests in certain classes. I know these students have worked hard all year to prepare for their next steps in education, and these tests will help inform that progress. To view parent guides for state testing and practice tests, visit https://www.louisianabelieves.com/resources/library/family-support-toolbox-library.

Our teachers, staff, and school leaders have worked hard this year to prepare students for this annual event.  We encourage our outstanding students to go into this annual assessment time with courage and confidence and enjoy demonstrating all they have learned this year. We are confident they will do well, and you all should be confident, too!

Also, when we return our graduates of 2019 will be finishing out their final days of K-12 education. For our seniors, there is still some work to be done, so work hard and finish strong! We all look forward to celebrating with you in May.

There are many other events that will take place between now and the end of the year.  Important events in extra-curricular and co-curricular programs such as sports, concerts, and other such performances will take place in what is left of April and throughout May. Additionally, there will be many celebrations where excellence is recognized and appreciated such as awards ceremonies and banquets. We look forward to all that is ahead between now and the last day of school and look forward to taking advantage of each opportunity as we finish this school year strong.

Enjoy this last little break!

Respectfully,

David Alexander
