Fall is passing by...

I hope this newsletter finds you well. Fall in New England is passing by quickly. I have saved the indigo seeds from my plants in the yard hoping I can plant them next Spring.
All workshops of Sewing and Indigo Dye went well in Oct. Thank you for your participation.

I am writing this in the last minute for New  England Fiber Festival in Big E. at West Springfield this weekend on Nov. 5-6th. Please forgive my sloppy writing and editing. I just want to announce upcoming events and studio news in time.

Mihoko Wakabayashi has run the SAORI WORCESTER weaving studio since 2000. Her fiber art displays traditional techniques of weaving and dyeing from her native Japan, along with experimental dyeing and shibori (resist-dye) techniques. In concert with her original practice of SAORI weaving, this exhibition highlights her recent exploration of the Japanese indigo dyeing tradition using indigo plants from her own front yard.

Susan Gardner, a long term studio member unexpectedly past away on Oct. 11th. She has become a studio member in 2001. It was when I had the studio at 3rd floor apartment at Home Street. Since then, she has been supporting the studio enormously in many many ways from donating banners for Elm Park Bridge project to giving a ride for her fellow students. She was the most generous and friendly person I have ever known. She believed in SAORI philosophy which can contribute to create healthy lively individuals and community. She was my best friend for a long time. I miss her big smiles so much...I would like to thank her for everything she did for me and for the studio. I still have her unfinished warp in the studio. I hope we all weave on it to finish wishing her rest in peace.

You may see her obituary here for what she did by her death.
