We are a non-profit society incorporated to build a wider and improved understanding of Canada's history and growth through intercultural explorations of historic and current trans-Pacific immigration.
Message from the President

Dear Friends and Supporters,

It was with much pride and trepidation that I stepped into the big shoes of our Founding President, Dr. Ray LEE  of Calgary, a revered and well-loved elder whose passion and dream we all share.  Thanks to the support and creativity of our directors and our core volunteer teams, the Pacific Canada Heritage Centre (PCHC) has found ways to develop and carry out its educational and outreach work in Metro Vancouver and beyond.  With the
UBC Library coming on board as our 2015 Title Sponsor, we have been able to hire Eleanor Munk into a full-time position and have our website revamped.  The new website will be officially launched at the pre-dinner reception on May 8 at a joint program celebrating the first batch of graduates from the Asian Canadian and Asian Migration Studies program at UBC, as part of the explorASIAN 2015 festival.

Behind the scenes we continue to identify major sponsors and potential partners to realize our dream of building a Museum of Migration. We are very pleased to have the official blessings of the Chief and Council of the Musqueam Nation who have written to support our proposal to build a Museum of Migration here in Metro Vancouver. We are making good progress and will further adjust our road map as we consider our options.  Meanwhile, through the outreach programming of  PCHC, we are able to support community groups and individual families in documenting and sharing their own migration stories and history.  Please visit
www.pchc-mom.ca to check out our current and past events.

In partnership with the PCHC-MoM Society, Ricepaper Magazine is creating a special issue to be published Fall 2015. The theme of the issue is "Roots", concentrating on Pacific roots and migration stories. Amazingly it was now 40 years ago that Canadians opened their arms to Boat People - we encourage you to look into your own history for wonderful stories! Submissions are due June 23. See Submittable for guidelines or visit PCHC-MoM or Ricepaper's website for more. You can also subscribe to Ricepaper here to receive issues from Ricepaper all year!
