Make it Monday: Bound Journals

Each month we try something new that we found on Pinterest. If your 2016 resolutions included "write more," you're in luck. Our January project will be binding our own notebooks, good for journalling, novel writing (well, maybe short stories and poetry), recipe collections, etc. Call us at 348-7441 ext 4 or stop by the library to sign up.
The next time you're snowbound and can't get to the library, don't be caught without anything to read. Learn how to use Wisconsin's Digital Library (aka OverDrive) to download ebooks and e-audiobooks to your computer or mobile device from the comfort of anywhere with an Internet connection. Bring your library card and your device to either of our two drop-in sessions for hands-on help getting started.

Coloring is a relaxing, creative activity that's not just for kids. Spend an afternoon unwinding at the library with crayons and colored pencils. We provide the supplies, you provide the creativity.

Sicario (R)

An idealistic FBI agent is enlisted by an elected government task force to aid in the escalating war against drugs at the border area between the U.S. and Mexico. Starring Emily Blunt and Josh Brolin.
We'll have popcorn and hot beverages. Feel free to also bring in your own favorite movie snack.
Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Questions? Call 348-7441 ext 4.
It turns out that none of us have had much time for reading or movie watching as the year winds down because we've been too busy spending the remains of our library book budgets. So look for dozens (nay, hundreds!) of new items to hit our shelves as 2016 rolls around.
A new year, a new you, a new...language? If one of your 2016 resolutions is to learn a new language, we've got tools for you.
Want to learn the basics?
Mango Languages is free with your library card and has over 70 languages, from American Sign Language to Yiddish with everything from Latin to Pirate in between. Sign up with your library card and track your progress. Also available as an app for iOS or Android.
Want to go more in depth?
We have four laptops loaded with Rosetta Stone that are available to check out.
A few things to know:
  • Languages available are Spanish (Latin America), Spanish (Spain), Mandarin Chinese, and German
  • Laptops check out for three weeks.
  • You must be 18 to check out a laptop.
  • You must have a Southwest Wisconsin Library System card in good standing for at least three months to check out a laptop.
  • Laptops must be picked up and returned in person.
Want a book?
We also have shelves full of dictionaries, books, and books on CD for learning a variety of languages. Browse the 400s section of the non-fiction to see what we have. Be sure to ask at the Information Services desk if you have any questions.
