From the Executive Director
My name is Samantha (Sam) Weinstein and I have recently started working jointly with Ryan as Executive Director of SEAGO. We will began a month-long period of overlap beginning March 10th, so I have time to learn from his experiences before taking over the position in April.
A little more about me and my mild obsession with fisheries work:
I grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and spent my free time developing a love for aquatic species as an animal educator for our Urban Ecology Center. I cultivated this passion during law school through two Alaska internships, one with NOAA's Office of General Counsel in Juneau. Graduation saw me moving to Portland, OR, where I received a Master's Degree in Environmental law, focusing my classes on oceans and wildlife law. Another graduation under my belt, I returned to Anchorage to work a year-long term for a Superior Court Judge, followed by a year with the Alaska State Legislature. I currently have a private legal practice in Juneau.
While it's not fair to play favorites, there's a reason I moved back to Southeast (for the second time). We're lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, one that draws over a million tourists a year for sightseeing, hiking, and, yes, fishing.
I'm excited to return to fisheries work, and even more so to be a part of an organization at the crossroads of tourism, sustainability, and economic growth. Please shoot me an e-mail or give me a call to introduce yourself and ask any follow up questions you might have about our transition.
Sincerely,
Sam
