We are currently undergoing a few exciting renovations here at Hungerford Hill, which will enable us to provide some new offerings, including an espresso bar and a selection of cheese and antipasto platters, as well as delicious cakes… but more on this in future newsletters.

In this edition of the Hungerford Herald we explore our passion for Tumbarumba, as we delve into what makes Tumbarumba Pinot Noir so good! And we introduce you to a local legend.

Last Thursday evening we hosted a fantastic culinary experience for our wonderful members and friends at the superb Café Paci in Sydney for a fantastic culinary experience! Each dish was exceptionally matched to a beautiful selection of our wines (including the very special 2006 Cote d'Or Shiraz).

We will also be heading to Brisbane and Melbourne for a night of delicious food and spectacular wines. Tickets are already selling fast for all events! For more information call Sharon on 02 4990 0702.

Explore the pristine landscape of the Tumbarumba Region as our winemaker, Adrian Lockhart, chats about what makes Tumbarumba so special.
Tumbarumba Pinot Noir

Nestled in the spectacular foothills of the Snowy Mountains, Tumbarumba is one of the most remote and remarkably unique wine regions in Australia.

This alpine high country is dominated by dramatic mountainous landscapes, lush green pastures and classic Australian bushland such as those captured in the film The Man from Snowy River.

The 2013 Classic Tumbarumba Pinot Noir is a wonderfully aromatic Pinot Noir with raspberry, rhubarb, violet, and vanilla aromas and very bright medium red in colour. The savoury palate is an explosion of flavours, harmonising perfectly with subtle acidity, fine grained tannins with a very long elegant finish.

Tumbarumba Locals - Cathy Gairn

No conversation regarding Tumbarumba and wine is complete without mentioning Cathy Gairn. Cathy‘s love affair with Tumbarumba began back in 1983, culminating in the purchase of her and husband Brian’s first piece of land in 1985 and subsequent vineyard establishment in 1993.

Vale Phillip John

One of the greats in the Australian wine fraternity passed away at his home in Adelaide in January this year.

Born into a famous Barossa Valley cooperage family, Phillip John was destined to be in the wine industry. He started his winemaking career with Seppelt’s straight out of school, and stayed with them until 1980 when he joined Lindeman’s. This role took him to Sydney where he oversaw winemaking in the Hunter Valley as well as their growing Sunraysia operations. Phillip 'fathered' one of Australia's first successes in the US and UK, Lindeman’s Bin 65 Chardonnay, but was reluctant to carry this mantle, but was more proud to have won the Jimmy Watson for Lindeman’s Coonawarra Pyrus blend in 1986.
Bell Shakespeare's 25th Anniversary

Hungerford Hill are excited to continue our partnership with Bell Shakespeare as they celebrate their 25th Anniversary. Our wines will be served at all their openings and VIP events around the country.

FAN OF THE MONTH

There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing our wines being enjoyed by Hungerford Hill fans. So we started a monthly competition to celebrate the Fan of the Month.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH

One of our favourite pastimes at Hungerford Hill (apart from wine, of course) is food. We’re always on the lookout for fresh new recipes. So let’s do a swap – we’ll share our favourites and you share yours. 

Here’s a delicious recipe for Oxtail, Chorizo & Red Wine Stew – it’s perfect with a glass of our Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon
