Each month, Foot of the Bed Cellars has a release party for their subscribers to pick up their wine. This month, members and fans of Slow Food South Bay are invited to join their wine release party, this Sunday, January 21 from 4-6 PM at Joni Sare's home in Cupertino.
Foot of the Bed Cellars was started in October 2016 by Luc Bergevin and award-winning Sommelier Martin Sheehan-Stross. Based in San Francisco, they source 2 different wines (a red and a white) from small producers around the West Coast each month, buying barrels directly from the wineries.
They then bottle the wines themselves, package them under the Foot of the Bed Cellars label, and sell direct to subscribers. They are fully transparent about the producers they work with, and tend to partner with smaller, family-owned wineries. They've released wines from Thomas Fogarty, Steve Matthiasson, Kenny Likitprakong, Katy Wilson of Banshee, Abe Schoener, Chris Pittenger, and Matthew Rorick, to name a few.
Selecting the wines is Martin Sheehan-Stross, currently the Sommelier at Michael Mina and the winner of the 2016 Chaine de Rotisseurs World's Best Young Sommelier competition. Martin also includes a write-up of the wines in each month's package. The San Francisco Chronicle wrote last year that their wines are "clean, stylistically accessible -- far out-performing their price point."
Wine tasting: This month they have a wonderful 2015 Calfornia Syrah from Jaffurs, and a 2016 Sonoma Valley Sauvignon Blanc. They will bring other selections for tasting and retail (cash, check and credit card accepted).
Appetizers will be served, 4 - 6pm.
All Slow Food folks are welcome to attend, and anyone who signs up to become a "Foot of the Bed" subscriber ahead of time will get $15 off their first order with the discount code SLOWFOOD at checkout. You will then pick up your order at the wine tasting/release party at Joni's home in Cupertino this Sunday.
