Modern Quilting with Feeds Dogs up – what a great idea!

Nous avons continué notre visite du Salon et nous avons encore été
émerveillées par le talent canadien. L'atmosphère du salon était
énergisante et inspirante.
Pour la première fois, je me suis inscrite à un cours dans le cadre
d'une convention. Le sujet était " Modern quilting with the feed dogs
up. Melissa Marginet (www. Marginet.weebly.com ) de Beauséjour, Manitoba nous a enseigné
cette technique. Pour les personnes comme moi qui ont de la difficulté
à faire du " free motion", cette technique est fascinante et nous
permet de pîquer tout en gardant un point régulier. Les résultats sont
magnifiques et les possibilités sont illimitées. Voici quelques
exemples des piquages enseignés:
Les exposants
Cette année , plus de 250 marchands sont venus présenter leurs produits et
services. On y trouve de tout: tissus, outils et bien sûr des machines
à coudre et à piquage. Mes copines ont eu des coups de coeur!!!
Brigitte a finalement réalisé son rêve d'acheter une surjeteuse
babylock qui s'enfile automatiquement.
Elizabeth s'est achetée un superbe meuble pour la planche à repasser avec tablette
qui sera construite sur mesure par Adam de Eddycrest Sewing Furniture.
Bien sûr, il y a toutes sortes d'outils pour nous aider dans notre
art. Le plus intéressant d'après nous est le Ideal Seam Guide qui nous aide
à coudre au 1/4 de pouce ou encore au 1/4 de pouce frilleux ( scant
quarter inch). Génial ce produit. Au retour à la maison, je me promets
de jouer avec cet outil et vous en dire plus long.
Nous avons continué à faire des rencontres intéressantes et à agrandir notre réseau de personnes aussi passionnées que nous : Denis-Justin Lajoie, Président de Courtepointe Québec et des courtepointiers de Gatineau : Wayne et Chantal Istead.
J'ai croisé mon bon ami Paul Léger avec qui j'ai pris le cours
Illusional Patchwork avec le Ottawa Modern Guild au printemps dernier.
Paul a aussi fait l'objet d'un article dans la revue Quiltmania
d'avril dernier. Il est rendu une célébrité dans le monde de la
courtepointe!
Nous avons quitté le Salon très satisfaites de notre visite. L'année
prochaine, Quilt Canada aura lieu encore à Toronto. Comptez sur moi, j`y serai! Et vous?

We continued our visit at the show and we marveled over all the talent of Canadian quilters.
We participated in a one-day workshop. The topic was “Modern Quilting with the Feed Dogs up. Melissa Marginet (www.marginet.weebly.com) developed a technique that is quite interesting for those (like me) who have difficulty doing free motion and having an even stitch. All the patterns that we did during the day were curves and straight lines but with the feed dogs up and on a regular machine. Hence, more control on the length of the stitch. This was a lot of fun and this is definitely an option that I will use in future projects. Here are some examples of quilting that can be achieved using this method.
The Merchants Hall
This year, over 250 merchants had a booth at the show. You can find everything to your heart`s content from fabric, latest tools, sewing machines, long arm machines etc. Elizabeth and Brigitte couldn’t resist. Brigitte has finally bought the Baby Lock serger she has been dreaming of for several years.
As for Elizabeth, she bought an ironing table made to measure by the company Eddycrest.
Tools, tools, tools!!
As for tools, there was quite a selection. But the winner, in our opinion, is called the Ideal Seam Guide. (www.sewverysmooth.com). When accuracy is crucial (like a scant ¼`` or a ¼``), this is very helpful. Can’t wait to try it out and will tell you all about it.
New Friends
And of course, what make a Convention a real success is the people you meet and the network you create. We met Denis-Justin Lajoie, President of Courtepointe Quebec and Wayne and Chantal Istead who are passionate quilters in Gatineau.
I also came across Paul Léger, who taught me the Illusional Patchwork workshop offered through the Ottawa Modern Guild last Spring. Paul was also featured in Quiltmania magazine this Spring. He is now a celebrity in the Quilting world!!
We left the show happy , inspired and full of ideas for future projects. Quilt Canada will be held again next year in Toronto. Same time next year! Count me in! Hope you come and join the fun!
