the unfolding journey ...
Namaste <<First Name>>
Welcome to the  Autumn issue of the One Shakti newsletter.

I hope you are witnessing and embracing all the uncertainties and changes that  seems to be present - socially, politically, economically and may be even personally. Our habituated nature may be questioned or feel numbed by the fear aspect of these uncertainties or fall into patterns of trying to fix with exercising a "positive" action. Let's stop trying to get somewhere and at least for a few moments acknowledge where we are and become Real.

I invite you to take a few moments to pause and read few of the articles posted, join our new term of classes starting in the New Year, come and hear some wonderful and inspiring speakers at monthly talks and join us for the May 2018 retreat - "Stillness in Action".

In this newsletter, One Shakti team shares
Have an awakening day and joyous times during the coming festive season.. Let your 2018 be full of great energies to live fearlessly  and choose to embrace each moment fully.

Welcoming Fear as a Friend
The basic lesson is this: Fear is not an enemy but a friend. Fear is something good, something alive, alert, and wild in us. Fear may be a response to danger, bur fear itself is not dangerous.

On the contrary, It is nothing other than life-spirit standing on its toes right here, right now with clear attention, sharp senses, ready body, flared nostrils, bristled hair, poised muscles, pumping heart, clean breath.

The immense gratitude I experienced when I was most afraid was for feeling so incredibly alive. In untamed fear there is a profound sense of something that is me going through the experience. It is person-hood without definition, identity without identification, self-hood without attributes. And it has an immense steadiness to it, an almost eternal quality. Here is this life, this being that is deeply myself, having this experience, being in it as I have been through every moment of the past, as I will be in every moment, to come, no matter what. In this strange way, fear brought me an ultimate reassurance.

Breaking Free from the Tyranny of Positivity
Ever been told to 'just be happy' or, to 'lighten up'? Does that really make you feel happier? For many, this advice leads to the opposite effect.

"Our happiness comes not as a goal, but as a byproduct of engaging in honesty with ourselves"  Susan David
Author of Emotional Agility and leading Harvard Medical School psychologist Susan David recently teamed up with award-winning journalist and author Maria Shriver for a unique conversation on why positivity doesn't necessarily lead to happiness. Read more to understand how our obsession with positivity undermines the truth of our authentic expressions, and is an untrue display of our experience in the world. Sometimes, we need to just admit that we are having a bad day. Both experts offer steps on how to achieve this authentic expression in your own life. Research focused on what creates resilience, empathy and joy reveals that expanding our emotional vocabulary and how we express our authentic feelings, is what allows us to transcend these emotions, and find more peace.
