Ever wonder what theological and social perspectives shaped Pastor Tony's spiritual compass? On Fearless Sunday, September 9, the organization Progressive Christianity encourages pastors to boldly share their truth about their theological and social perspectives. It is a time for pastors to “out” themselves on matters of belief, social justice concerns, and how they evolved spiritually. Pastor Tony invites you to be part of this by submitting your questions in these areas. You can do so by emailing any question, no matter how big or small, to firstname.lastname@example.org, subject line "Fearless Sunday." He will respond to your questions and concerns promptly and in truth. By offering you his perspectives in an authentic and transparent manner, he joins with other pastors across the nation to enhance dialogue and elevate Jesus' Way of compassion.
Congregational Presentation of
New Architectural Design Master Plan September 9
All are welcome and invited to attend a presentation of the proposed architectural Master Plan design for Church of the Beatitudes by Barduson Architectural Firm, on September 9, immediately following the service at 11 a.m. in the worship center.
Design Team Special Note:
Last Tuesday, August 21st, we were “wowed!” Your Design Team, staff, and members of the Board met with Steve and Adam from Bardusen Architectural Firm. We got our first look at a preliminary Master Plan for the church campus encompassing the values and needs of our spiritual community as we look toward the next decade. Again, “Wow!”
The Master Plan is divided into three phases. We hope to begin the first phase in January 2019, followed by phase two after a successful capital campaign. The last phase is based upon a response to the future advances of our community.
At our regularly scheduled board meeting afterwards, the Board passed a motion recommending the congregation accept this initial Master Plan and is calling a Congregational Meeting for September 16, immediately following our 10 a.m. worship. Prior to this date, Steve and Adam will make two presentations to the congregation along with information regarding funding of phase one. The first presentation is Sunday, September 9 at 11 a.m. in the worship center. The second is scheduled for Wednesday evening, September 12th, at 6:30 p.m., also in the worship center. Please email any questions and concerns via the Church Administrator, Pat Ezerski (email@example.com) or speak with one of the members of the Design Team. Join us on either of these dates and get a glimpse into the awesome possibilities before us.

We are in desperate need for new ushers, we would like our new members to participate as it's a great way to get involved with the church as well as get to know everyone better. Ushers mainly greet people and hand out bulletins. They help people find restrooms, other rooms, etc. They take up the collection and serve communion. After the service, ushers go through the aisles and pick up items left and used bulletins, etc. If you are interested please email Joyce Glazner at firstname.lastname@example.org

United Church of Christ churches, clergy and congregants are reaching out with hope and in faith to migrants at our borders and immigrants across the country. Many more are asking what they can do to respond to the government policies that detain and separate families. The Southwest Conference UCC, acting with Justice and Local Church Ministries, is calling each member of the denomination to build on that immigrant-welcoming effort this fall as one Church to Keep Families Together.
That's why the Southwest Conference UCC and its border churches are issuing two calls to action, one for a faithful witness AT the border, in Arizona at United States border with Mexico August 26-30, and another for a faithful witness FOR the border this fall, in cities and towns across America. This two-pronged, organized effort prepares people of faith to welcome immigrants into our country, our communities and our churches, and to advocate for their humane treatment at the hands of the U.S government.
On a related topic, Conference Minister, Rev. Dr. William Lyons, has extended the following invitation for anyone interested in finding out more about family reunification projects. He notes, "when we joined the migrant family reunification effort last month we found Lutheran Social Services to be an excellent partner. They are inviting us to learn more about who they are and who they serve on Sept. 6." If you are interested in attending, please RSVP directly to Hannah Miller at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Allow me to introduce myself...
My name is Janelle Tapphorn and I have been blessed to have been chosen as the Church of the Beatitudes' Communications/Media Specialist and Pastoral Assistant. I recently received my Master's degree in Journalism from Regent University, and did my internship with Duet: Partners in Health & Aging. You can learn more about me by visiting my website at https://newstories4you.com/ .
On a personal note, you will find me fluttering and floating about the church in pursuit of ways to serve and share your stories of spirituality and hope. And, oh yea, I'm also the blond girlie with a blue butterfly tattooed on my right forearm...something slightly in common with a certain well-known church leader here at Church of the Beatitudes. Why a blue butterfly you ask? It is a significant symbol to me of the power of God's presence in the smallest moments of our lives. Eleven years ago, my husband Dave and I adopted our daughter, Joy, from China. On the day we were to meet her for the first time, a small but brilliant blue butterfly flew onto our tour bus as we were driving to the adoption center and landed smack dab on the window next to my head. A fellow adoptive mom sitting behind me tapped me on the shoulder and whispered, "Janelle, you know what that means don't you?" It was a confirmation to me that we were doing exactly God's will for our lives and making Jesus alive in a remote corner of the world where hope was needed. In Christ we are a new creation and I am reminded of that truth anytime I encounter a butterfly. Just as it says in 2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" (NIV). Please introduce yourself to me the next time you see me, and share any cool butterfly encounters you've had that rocked your world! I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you!
