The Design Team and members of the Board met with our architects this last Saturday. Their aim was to dialogue with us about our current feelings and thoughts about the state of our worship space as well as the entire campus. One exercise we did was especially enlightening. We were asked how we would describe Beatitudes to a friend. Next, we were asked to share how we hoped a first time visitor would feel after attending a Sunday worship once the renovation/renewal has taken place. We are in the very early stages of this process and have not yet started talking details, only big ideas.
The architects will meet with members of the Arts Council soon and take them through an abbreviated process of what the Design Team experienced. We are impressed with how they want to hear about our concerns and dreams. The Design Team meets again with the architects in two weeks.

We are finally finished with the main HVAC project and have enjoyed the cool air in all rooms. Part of the project was having the ability to schedule our air conditioning and heating to run only when the rooms are occupied. This means that if the rooms are not being used (occupied) the system is completely off (not even in standby or fan mode). This allows us to save substantially on our energy bills. So going forward it will be critical that should you have a meeting or special project that requires room usage, you will need to notify the office so we can schedule the air or heat being on for the event or meeting. We will need to know dates, start and end times to program your comfort. FAITH IN ACTION: Due to the heat and the fact that school is on break, Bishops Pantry FOOD supply is depleting as fast as we replenish it. If you could pick up some items when you shop, it would be greatly appreciated. Items always needed are: peanut butter, jelly, crackers that come in the rolled packages, cereal, canned fruit, vegetables, snack packs of fruit, applesauce, and pudding. Also, soups, chili, ravioli, spaghettios, canned tuna, chicken, salmon, or Vienna sausages are needed. If you bring things from your cupboard, please check the expiration dates. We cannot disburse expired canned food. Canned food with the pop tabs work best for people without access to a kitchen. During the heat, our clients also request basic hygiene items. Cash donations are very welcome, they can be given to Dee Sullivan or put in the offering earmarked Bishops Pantry. We are not requesting big bags full, (unless you wish to do so) just a few items per family or member per week or month would help us to keep up with the needs of the homeless and struggling families.

September 2nd - 9th is your opportunity to help homeless families in need. 4 families are hosted at COB. We will be hosting the families in Nelson Hall.
We are in desperate need for new ushers, we would like our new members to participate as it's a great way to get involved with the church as well as get to know everyone better. Ushers mainly greet people and hand out bulletins. They help people find restrooms, other rooms, etc. They take up the collection and serve communion. After the service, ushers go through the aisles and pick up items left and used bulletins, etc. If you are interested please email Joyce Glazner at email@example.com

It’s July, and it’s hot! Who is thinking about school? We are, because the school year will be starting on August 6th, and students will be lining up to enter their new classrooms. Many students come to Maryland School from families that have a difficult time providing support for their children, school budgets are inadequate to maintain needed programs, and teachers often spend their own money to have necessary supplies. Also many students require extra help to master grade level skills. Your help is needed in a variety of ways! Stop by the Faith in Action table to pick up a list of supplies that are needed and opportunities for volunteering (or click HERE). We will be collecting supplies from July 29-August 12th.
