Blue State? Red State? Cannabis State?

Cannabis consumption rates by state broadly follow a partisan divide with states that voted Democratic in the 2012 Presidential election having higher consumption rates then those which voted Republican. The average consumption rate for Republican-leaning states is 6.8%, compared to 9.5% in Democratic-leaning states. Notable outliers are Montana and Alaska, which have the highest use among Republican states, and Iowa and New Jersey, which have the lowest use among Democratic states.
