What's Your Favorite Park Story?
Anyone who has ever visited one of Vermont's state parks has left with a good story to tell! Send us your story and picture, and we'll share them with our readers and mail you a Vermont Parks Forever sticker!

Here's one of our favorites about Muckross Day Camp held at Muckross State Park in Springfield, Vermont

Shared by Margie Reurink, Park Manager at Muckross

Last year, approximately 160 kids, grades 1-8, took part in the Muckross Day Camp program. They explored the pond, went on nature hikes, played outdoor games and created nature-based art. We were lucky enough to have presentations by Vermont Institute of Natural Science, Vermont Fish and Wildlife, and Raven’s Wood Outdoor School. Additionally, with help from the Vermont Humanities Council, each first and second grader brought home 3 nature books. Overall, the summer was filled with plenty of sun, fun and outdoor nature exploration for all!

Muckross State Park is a new park as of 2016 and is located just outside of town in Springfield. The property was generously donated by Edgar May so that it could become a community-oriented state park and be used for exactly the kind of programming described above. To learn more about the history of this special place and see historic photos visit the Friends of Muckross website.

A Special Thanks to the VPF Board of Directors!

As we gathered earlier this month for our June Board meeting in space provided by our friends at Burton, we were reminded of how very lucky we are to have such a passionate and dedicated group of volunteers serving on the VPF Board of Directors. Their experience spans decades, and their backgrounds and talents are diverse. We are grateful for their leadership and contributions towards protecting, enhancing, and improving access to our state parks.
