Hi <<First Name>>,

We hope you are keeping warm and toasty!
Happy Month of Love!
It’s the perfect month to curl up and share some love with yourself, your pets and those humans worthy of snuggles in your life. We began the month with Joelle’s Heart Yoga on Groundhog’s day. Thanks to all who participated! This second yoga event also sold out; more yoga to come! We wish Joelle all the best as she heads back to her homeland, Hawaii. She promises to return and teach more yoga with her amazing, trance-inducing voice and introduce us to other great teachers.
It's always good to try new things, right? Why not give Active Isolated Stretching with Joe a go?
Joe has many years under his belt as a massage therapist and has found this technique to be very helpful in making lasting changes. With AIS, you will be asked to participate in gentle movements and stretches. This will not be the massage you’re used to at Synergy; Joe’s work is different. Curious? We reward curiosity: Mention ‘GoJoe’ in your booking notes or while checking out to receive $40 off of any massage with Joe during the month of February. Joe is available Wednesday evenings and Thursday morning/afternoons.

Sleep! "Poppies will make them sleepy..."
We aren’t using poppies so much these days. But, we do use all kinds of drugs to help us sleep; none without side effects; even melatonin, a natural sleep aid can cause drowsiness the following day. Sleep is such an important pillar of health and it is crucial to get into a good routine for optimal sleep health. If you do have issues falling asleep or getting back to sleep after waking up in the night, there are drug-free options available to help you!

Essential oils can be rubbed into your chest before going to sleep to help make you drowsy. There are many pre-made sleepy time formulas out there; these include essential oils of orange, cardamom, lavender.... you can either make your own magical potion or purchase a pre-made mix. Please see if the oil needs to be diluted before placing on your body; safety first! (Also, pet owners, make sure the oils used are not toxic to your furry friends).

Apps such as ‘Insight Timer’ and ‘Calm’ are free and have many guided meditations for sleep with a variety of styles, voices and timed sessions available.

10 other Sleep Tips to send you to dreamland:
  1. Go to sleep and wake up at the same time everyday.
  2. Unplug an hour before bed (no TV, computers, phones, etc.) While TV may be a nice way to unwind and relax after work, it is a stimulant to the nervous system. Go ahead and watch, but plan to turn it off about an hour before bedtime.
  3. If you have alcohol at night, drink earlier in the evening, preferably with dinner so you’re body can process the sugars before hitting the hay.
  4. Eat 2 to 3 hours prior to going to bed to allow your body to digest properly.
  5. Don’t have a clock visible in your bedroom.
  6. Keep your bedroom cool.
  7. If you do wake in the night and can’t fall back to sleep, do not pick up your phone! Breathe, meditate, try to sleep. If you’ve been lying in bed for an hour not able to sleep, get up, go into another room and read. When sleepy again, put yourself back to bed. (Best to not read those page turning novels in the middle of the night, a magazine article or a book that’s not too exciting will work best to make you drowsy again.)
  8. If you suffer from anxiety or restless leg syndrome, a weighted blanket may be a good sleep tool for you. (Some of you have experienced the calming effects of the weighted blanket during your massage. If you haven’t had the opportunity to try it out yet, ask your massage therapist for it at your next massage!)
  9. Eat Fish and/or Chickpeas for vitamin B6
  10. Eat Whole Grains to increase Magnesium

All of these may not be possible, but try your best to include as many as you can into your routine and sleep well.
We look forward to seeing you soon!

Be well,

Pam and the Synergy Massage Team
