Migration and Mobility in Hamilton
How many of Hamilton's immigrants arrive here directly from overseas? How many come after living elsewhere in Canada first? How many settle in our city, and how many leave for other cities?

HIPC has released a new report  addressing these and other questions about immigrants living in Hamilton between 2010 and 2016, including admission categories, and occupational and employment characteristics.

The report is based on data from Statistics Canada’s Longitudinal Immigration Database (IMDB). The database combines tax data with administrative immigration data.

The data indicates that Hamilton has experienced stable growth in its stock of both direct and secondary immigrants. This growth is a net phenomenon as many of immigrants come and go from the city over the years. Hamilton is a net beneficiary of immigrants, with more moving to the city than leaving.
No Hate in The Hammer
HIPC participated in the launch of the community campaign "No Hate in The Hammer" which was organized by the Hamilton Community Legal Clinic, Hamilton Roundable Against Poverty and the John Howard Society. Community members and agencies gathered to denounce hate, exchange experiences and create a platform for collaboration against hate.

Last month, a Statistics Canada study ranked the Hamilton census metropolitan area (CMA) as having the highest per capita rate of police-reported hate crimes among 35 CMAs in the country. "Too often, we're in silos," said Evelyn Myrie, longtime pro-diversity advocate.  She called upon the community to "Work together collaboratively."

A followup meeting is scheduled for Sept. 6.
