Hawai'i BSN Forecast

Hawai'i is forecasted to ahcieve the 80% BSN rate by 2022.  This was determined by using data from the 2017 Nursing Workforce Supply Report and the 2016-2017 Hawai'i State Nurse Education Capacity Report, and Joanne Spetz's BSN-forecasting model.  In contrast, the national nursing workforce is expected to be 66% BSN-prepared by 2026.  Learn more.

Hawai'i APRNs Recognized by AANP

Each year the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) recognizes supporters of nursing from across the country, in two categories: nurse practitioners who have made outstanding contributions; and advocates who have made significant contributions toward increasing the awareness and acceptance of nurse practitioners.  This year AANP gave its State Award for Excellence to a number of advocates with close ties to the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action, an initiative of AARP Foundation, AARP, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.  The Center's Director, Laura Reichhardt, MS, APRN, NP-C received the 2018 State Award for Nurse Practitioner Advocate.  Jared Medeiros, APRN, received the 2018 State Award for Nurse Practitioners for his work at Lanai Community Health Center.  They were recognized at June's AANP National Conference in Denver, Colorado.

Healthy Meeting Pledge

The Hawai'i State Center for Nursing has taken the Healthy Meeting Pledge.  The National Alliance for Nutrition and Activity (NANA) developed the Healthy Meeting toolkit that addresses four topic areas: nutrition, physical activity, tobacco-free, and sustainability.  This toolkit is intended for anyone that holds meetings and conferences.

In Rememberance of Lenora L. Lorenzo

The Hawai'i Association of Professional Nurses (HAPN) has established an Annual Conference Scholarship in remembrance of Lenora L. The 2018 Nurse Residency Program Annual Conference was held in Savannah, Georgia in March. Program coordinators, nurse educators, and nurse residents from across the country attended to share program successes, innovative ideas, and the results of evidence-based practice projects.  Congratulations to Hawai'i Nurse Residency Program Collaborative Resident, Kearstin Waialae from Adventist Health Castle, for your abstract presentation at this national conference.
