Dear Oakbrook Members, Supporters and Friends,

To celebrate and develop the fantastic community achievement of land purchase just south of Hawkwood College, now named Oakbrook Farm, you are invited to come to a Harvest Celebration on

Saturday 24th September: 2pm-8pm.

This will be facilitated by Josie Felce who writes:

Land projects have begun or are being planned.  The land lies between two creative and innovative hubs of Stroud and Hawkwood College, with a public footpath between the two.  To me, it presents an opportunity to provide space to work with Heart, Head and Hand to tackle the ecological crisis, taking small steps locally.

Let us start with a simple celebration and experience the land that has been saved for sustainable community farming and the wellbeing of the people of Stroud.

Plan of the day:

  • 2-2.30pm - arrive with fresh and garden produce to create a harvest altar,
  • 2.30-4pm - walking the land and/or games for children,
  • 4-5pm - gathering to circle dance to live music,
  • 5pm onwards - feasting and time around the fire getting to know each other in this beautiful setting.
If you are intending to come, please reply to, so we know what number of people to expect.  Please bring some fresh or garden produce for the altar and prepared food to share in the evening.

There is limited parking off Old Painswick Road.

If you feel you could help with children’s games and any craft activity, please get in touch with Josie at or 01453-889504.

Do get in touch if you have a large tent or gazebo suitable for this gathering. I can provide 15ft Yurt and Bell tent. (Contact Josie as above.)

None of this can happen without you!
It's community that makes it work.

We look forward to seeing you there.
Josie and Oakbrook community team

The next celebration planned after this one could be the first birthday of the land purchase in November or some similar milestone, and seasonal celebrations following that. Let us know if you would like to help organise any event.

Oakbrook Community is now organising some work days on a regular basis so that volunteers can plan in advance to help as and when they can.

The Tree Group will be organising work on the following Sundays:  25th September; 23rd October and 20th November.  Work will include mulching and clearing around existing fruit and forage plants, planting new hedgerow bushes and gathering acorns, seedlings etc. to start a tree nursery.

Please come along any time after 10am and stay as long as you like.  Bring refreshments, any useful gardening equipment and plant donations you wish to see become part of the farm foraging trail.  Limited parking is available off Old Painswick Road.  For further information contact

More dates and activities to follow.

Stroud Community Agriculture warmly invite us to their Barn Dance at Brookthorpe Farm:

With best wishes from the Oakbrook team,
