As I write this today, I'm sitting a few miles from my home in Ohio on the shores of beautiful Lake Erie trying to soak in the final month of our Ohio summer. With two major events right around the corner, the Bird Watcher's Digest Sales, Marketing, & Events Team has never been busier! We have some important marketing opportunities to share with you today, so we hope you'll take a moment out of your busy schedule to read about ways we can help you promote your product, event, company, destination, or organization.

ADVERTISING TRENDS
We've seen some exciting advertising trends in the birding and tourism market this year, and many of you are reaching larger audiences through digital marketing. One of the most successful advertising opportunities at Bird Watcher's Digest is our eBlast marketing which reaches a targeted audience of nearly 40,000 qualified people! eBlasts deliver your marketing message to consumers who are eager to act. Our eBlasts have open rates averaging between 20 and 30 percent—nearly double the industry benchmark of 12 to 18 percent! Another hot trend right now is social media marketing. Our Facebook audience has more than 25,000 followers, and we provide sponsored posts for advertisers at a very affordable rate. Our audience can read about you through a sponsored post on our Facebook page! Perhaps the biggest trend of all in the birding market is in events and event marketing. Through participation and sponsorship of birding events, your company can target thousands of avid birders on a regular basis. BWD partners with many birding events, including the Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival, the Space Coast Birding & Wildlife Festival, the Cape Cod Birding Festival, the Biggest Week In American Birding, and others, to encourage birders to attend a birding event. Estimates vary as to the number of birders in the U.S., but it's a lot—from 20 million to perhaps as many as 75 million (including backyard birding enthusiasts).

 

U.S. BIRDING DEMOGRAPHICS AND STATISTICS
We put together a short slide show recently called "Feathered Impact" focusing on the economic statistics and demographics in the United States, and the numbers are quite impressive! DEADLINES AND DON'T-MISS OPPORTUNITIES

  • The deadline to reserve print space in our November/December 2015 issue is September 3! Please contact me to reserve your ad space in the first of our two holiday-season issues! Remember, our November/December issue is published in mid-October, so it's a great time to feature your holiday promotions through BWD! Our second holiday-season issue is January/February which mails in mid-December.

WE'RE GROWING!
Our sales, marketing, and events department is growing! We've added two important members to our team this summer: Mollee Brown is a recent graduate of Marietta College and is our marketing assistant; Emily Jones is a senior at Marietta College, and is our sales and events intern.
