Texans Demand Paper Backup Records for Early Voting
Austin, Texas – October 24, 2016 - Early Voting results in Texas are at risk.  Texas laws require Early Voting paper backup records to prevent electronic  hacking of elections.  To the surprise of Texans, a bureaucrat in the Texas Secretary of State's office has issued instructions to counties to ignore state election laws that require the printing of paper backup records for Early Voting.

Texas Election Code 66.023 clearly demands precinct returns be printed, signed and returned to count officers as backup records to prove how the computers say we voted.  Texans are beside themselves because the Secretary of State's office should be demanding that every county follow all laws to ensure the utmost integrity of our elections.
A press conference was held at the Texas Capitol to urge Governor Abbott, Lt. Gov. Patrick, House Speaker Straus, and the Texas Elections Committee to immediately act to restore paper backup records for Early Voting.  More than 1,000 personally signed letters were presented along with a summary of prominent Texans and citizens and the 140 cities where they reside.

There is also a recent request for Attorney General Ken Paxton to issue an opinion related to printing of paper backup tapes.

Plenty of time exists to instruct election judges to print the paper backup tapes at the close of Early Voting which is several weeks away.  To date, no executive action has been taken to restore the paper backup records for Early Voting in Texas.
A video of the press conference can be found HERE.
