Who We Are
VOICE is a nonprofit organization that teaches healthy living skills, including how to avoid substance abuse. We have served children and their families since 1992 and have grown to reach over 50,000 individuals in sixteen counties each year.
Our Mission
To empower children and their families to lead healthy and productive lives by promoting success in education, nurturing wellness in mind and body, and developing skills in tomorrow’s global leaders.
Red Ribbon Week Celebrated October 26-31
Red Ribbon Week is a national effort to bring awareness to the value of living drug free and the sacrifices made by the men and women who support our nation’s fight against drug trafficking and abuse. VOICE assisted one hundred and four schools in sixteen counties with Red Ribbon celebrations by making drug education presentations and providing banners, red ribbons, awareness bracelets, and pencils.
Summer Programs a Big Success!
Summer Breakout
One hundred and seventeen first through fifth grade students in low-income neighborhoods, including housing authorities, spent five weeks maintaining mental acuity and learning healthy behaviors. Using the nationally recognized MindUP™ curriculum, children discovered how the brain influences learning and behavior.
Summer Freedom School
In this five-week program held on school campuses, one hundred and sixty-nine kindergarten through eighth grade students expanded their love of learning while exploring their cultural heritage. One hundred and sixteen adults attended the weekly parent sessions and provided eight hundred and sixty three volunteer hours at the program.
Community Coalition Partnerships Impact Communities
One coalition strategy is to remind adults that they have a strong influence on youth and underage drinking.
In 2013, the Department State Health Services (DSHS) provided funding to encourage the formation of coalitions to research and implement environmental strategies that address underage and binge drinking, marijuana use and prescription drug abuse. The coalitions are comprised of nonprofit organizations, businesses, parents, students, and other concerned community members. VOICE was awarded a five-year grant to create VASA (Voices Against Substance Abuse) in McLennan County. In Navarro County, we are a member of the Impact Navarro coalition. If you would like to join the effort, please contact us at info@voiceinc.org or 254.741.9222.

Justice of the Peace Receives Lone Star Award
Villarreal, shown here with Douglas Denton (left), Association of Substance Abuse Programs President, and Lynda Sloan, VOICE CEO, received the state-wide award in Austin on September 15.
McLennan County Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace Fernando Villarreal was awarded a Lone Star Award by the Association of Substance Abuse Programs for his vision, leadership, and commitment to families. As an example of his concern, he refers families that need to improve communication skills and relationships to VOICE’s Strengthening Families Program, which has been proven to reduce juvenile problem behaviors, including truancy, substance abuse, and delinquency.
