Cross Lutheran
PEEK OF THE WEEK!
for the week of
October 27th, 2019

Hello Saints of Cross Lutheran,

Last night the worship committee and I decided that we will replace Cross Kids Worship by giving our younger brothers and sisters opportunity to participate in worship every week.  The Sunday School will still sing on the third Sunday.  However, reading opportunities, ushering opportunities and greeting opportunities are available to families and kids every Sunday instead of just the third Sunday. The church is always all ages combined.  Kids are not the “future church,” but they are the church with us now. Our decision reflects wanting to be all age friendly all the time.  We will strive to make worship excellent and meaningful for all ages here.   Much thanks is due to those whom participated the last few months in Cross Kids Worship.  Your ministry is appreciated and was enjoyed.

We also decided that “BY FAITH” will have some Sunday morning opportunities to lead worship as well.  We will keep folks posted when this will begin.

Please note that on Thanksgiving Eve, Wednesday, November 27th a 6:00 p.m. worship service will be held here.

God Bless,

Pastor John

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE

Soon you will be asked to make a gift to the
Continuing to Reach
Mortgage Reduction Campaign

Before making your decision it is important that you know the following:
  • We are asking each household to make a three‐year commitment. Pledging has been established for households to make a more significant investment than might be possible with a single cash donation.
  • We are asking each household to make a three‐year commitment. Pledging has been established for households to make a more significant investment than might be possible with a single cash donation.
  • When receiving your commitment information, please take time to consider and pray over the amount to give.
  • Please do not take away from your gifts to our annual stewardship to make a mortgage reduction campaign gift.
  • All giving to this effort is confidential. The individuals who record Cross’ regular giving will also be tracking mortgage reduction campaign giving.
We ask that you pray for God’s guidance throughout this process as well as the campaign volunteers and entire faith community. This is an important moment in Cross’ history and we thank you for your interest!

Dear Cross family and friends,

The Cross Lutheran Church Council along with other leaders of the congregation, is beginning to work on our transition plan as we prepare for the process of calling a pastor.

The first step in creating the plan is a congregational survey called the Congregation Assessment Tool (CAT). The CAT explores the perspectives, experiences, and aspirations of our faith community and then provides a comprehensive readout on the health and trajectory of our congregation. It generates a report that can help all of us learn more about our dreams for Cross and about challenges that may affect the transition to a new senior pastor. It will also inform the profile to be developed for the synod staff to match candidates for our position.

Why take time for a church assessment? Because churches, like people, need an occasional check-up! A picture of how things are now can be of help to us in solving the puzzle of what direction God is calling us to take in the future. It will also help us collect and understand the range of views that exist in our faith community about our priorities and opportunities in this time of transition.

The survey will take about 20-25 minutes to complete. Participation from all members and friends who are involved in our ministries age 16 and above is vital. We have a goal of 100% of our average worship attendance to get reliable, confident data.

The link to the survey will be sent via email November 10, 2019, so keep an eye out. Links to the CAT will also be published in our weekly email and printed announcements. If you don’t receive it in one of these ways,
please contact us and we’ll make sure you get access. To encourage and enable the most participation, we will have, lap top accessibility here on some days for people to use. A paper copy will be available in the office, but this is to be of last resort. Please ask if you need assistance accessing the online CAT.

The CAT is anonymous, and no one will see your responses and know they are yours

A few notes about taking the survey:

  • You must complete the CAT in one sitting. Once you close CAT you cannot get back in.
  • While all in your household age 16 and up may take the survey, only ONE member of the household should fill out the family and financial questions.
  • Plan on 20-25 minutes to complete the CAT.
  • Please complete it independent of anyone else.
  • If you have a family member who is active at Cross and does not have computer access, offer to help them complete the assessment online. We have a very limited number of paper copies available.
  • You can take the survey on any computer or mobile device starting 11/10/19.
  • There will be questions about Pastor Dean in order to give us insight into making the right selection for a new pastor.

Remember, there will be opportunities to access a computer and the CAT at church for people who would like assistance. The survey will be open for response on Sunday, 11/10/19 and close at the end of the day on Sunday, 12/1/19.
Thank you for giving the gift of your time and your input to the start of our transition.

In Christ,

The Cross Church Council
