NEW Adult Bible Study coming this fall!
I am very excited to share with you the start of a new adult study this fall. It will be the BIBLE BOOK OF THE MONTH adult seminar that will be held the Second Sunday of each month. It will be held in the Fellowship Hall from 10:30-11:15 am. This is a class in which I will highlight one Book of the Bible each month: its major themes and messages, key passages and other helpful background on the book.  Participants will then be asked to read the Book of the Bible during the month using a guide of suggested passages and study helps.  I will continue the Monday 4-5 pm class on the gospel of John, starting up on Sept. 10th after a summer break.
~ Pastor Durk Peterson
Women’s Bible Study is starting up again, starting September 15th.  We invite YOU to join us on the 3rd Saturday of every month.  We will be meeting at the church from 9:00-11:00.  Snack and coffee is provided.  There is also child care available for your children.  This year we will be studying the Armor of God by Priscilla Shirer:

The Armor of God. All day, every day, an invisible war rages around you — unseen, unheard, yet felt throughout every aspect of your life. A devoted, devilish enemy seeks to wreak havoc on everything that matters to you: your heart, your mind, your marriage, your children, your relationships, your resilience, your dreams, your destiny. But his battle plan depends on catching you unaware and unarmed. If you’re tired of being pushed around and caught with your guard down, The Armor of God study is for you.

The enemy always fails miserably when he meets a woman dressed for the occasion. The Armor of God, more than merely a biblical description of the believer’s inventory, is an action plan for putting it on and developing a personalized strategy to secure victory.

Children, Youth and Family Activities

As the dog days of summer come to an end, the tell-tale signs of Fall start to arrive. One such sign of Fall is that Cross Choir will be starting back up for the year! We are excited to announce that we will be collaborating with the Sunday school children in their Christmas program and several instrumentalists this year, so you can definitely look forward to some awesome music coming your way.

Please note that Cross Choir is a community group that welcomes all age groups and voice parts. We are hoping to strengthen our sound with even more singers this year and encourage you to join us. All who enjoy singing and lifting up your voice in joyful praise are welcome. New this year: choir members will receive optional, free, 15-minute, weekly voice lessons from Chelsea. Rehearsals will be held Thursdays at 7pm and a few Sundays after church.

Our first rehearsal will be Thursday 9/6. Also, please visit our booth at the Ministry Fair on 9/30 for a chance to win three 30-minute voice or piano lessons!
Contact Chelsea at: chelsea.lloyd@my.uwrf or (507)-269-9786 for more information.
Special thank you to Jim Hartmon, Pam Miles, Melissa Briese, Rachel Welsh and Dan Briese for their research and development on the outdoor play space at Cross.  By Rally Sunday, you will see our play set back up and ready for kiddos!  This team has also reviewed ideas from Melissa Briese on adding to our space and creating a fall-safe ground cover (until a decision has been made on a different ground cover, please know that the grass does qualify as fall-safe 😊).  The team decided to proceed with purchasing a Noah’s Arc playset which includes two slides, a rock climbing wall and firefighter’s pole!  The Arc will be set up in addition to our existing playset.  The building committee allocated $5,000 towards the cost of renovating our play space and WELCA graciously donated $1,500 for this effort.
Thank you to both of these groups!

Are You Satisfied?

On several occasions I have heard professional athletes describe their training in this way. “I’m always trying to improve- trying to get stronger and quicker and better.” Great athletes are never ever satisfied with their workouts and performance. They are always seeking to improve.

I would ask us as followers of Christ if we are satisfied with our discipline and devotion to Christ.  Here are some questions to challenge us:

Am I worshipping often enough to honor God and Christ?

Am I reading scripture to learn more about God’s Word and his love for me?

Am I serving others in the name of Christ enough? Is there more I can be doing?

Am I taking time to pray and reflect on my life and the lives of others?

Am I inviting and bringing others to church?

Am I giving a generous offering from my heart to the heart of our congregation’s mission?

As you think about these questions you may find yourself feeling guilty- guilty for not doing enough, right?   I hope not.

My purpose in asking these questions is to motivate you to grow in God’s kingdom- increase in your love, serving, giving, etc.   Of course, we make choices that can help us improve and strengthen our discipleship. But….it is God’s Holy Spirit that moves us, inspires us, and motivates us to serve Christ.

Are you satisfied with where you are at?  I hope not! I hope and pray you will move ahead in your life of faith to serve and grow in Christ. The fall is a great time to re-engage after the summer. Get ready to step up your giving and discipleship.

See you in church!

-Pastor Durk
